When the Cowboys claimed Curtis Johnson off waivers from Indianapolis last Sept. 1, they envisioned him becoming a pass-rushing threat to spell Anthony Spencer and maybe DeMarcus Ware.
It never really happened in 2009 partly because of a hamstring injury and partly because it took him some time to learn outside linebacker after playing defensive end for the Colts.
But the Cowboys remain high on his potential after seeing him in three games. There will be competition for Johnson next year with Brandon Williams coming off knee surgery after missing his rookie season, in addition to Victor Butler. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys look for more outside linebacker help in the draft because you can never have enough of them.
But Indianapolis defensive end Raheem Brock believes Johnson, his former teammate, will turn into a player for the Cowboys.
"Of all the young guys I've seen in the past eight years he's one of the top of them that works the hardest on the field and in the weight room," Brock said. "He's got great speed and he's a great outside pass rusher ... That will be a nice fit for him. I can see him doing something with that."
