Not sure I agree with you on the Kosier part, because he basically got blown up but tried to stay in position, but looking at that screen grab three, it's pretty amazing that Barber didn't end up with the first down on that play.
Are you basing this on the pictures or the replay? Haynesworth got a nice initial push, but Kosier stood him up and Barber and a decent lane inside Kosier for a first down.

I'm just going off of the picks, and my recollection of the 'oh, crap' moment I had watching it live. Either way, there's room for Marion to sneak in there, for sure, and I'm surprised he didn't.

its simple, spread you offense a little so the defense cant bunch up, and stop telegraphing where you are running with a mediocre fullback.

that's what I was thinking.

Cowboys looking at short yardage issues

Against San Diego the Cowboys failed on three chances to score from the Chargers 3. On Sunday at Washington they failed on four tries of third-and-1 or -2 and fourth-and-1.

Marion Barber got the call on those plays between the tackles. In the past Barber was automatic on short yardage situations, or at least it seems. As Gerry pointed out in an earlier post, Barber is 2-of-7 recently after converting 10 of 11.

Wade Phillips said the coaches are looking at the short-yardage package to correct what has gone wrong but he doesn't think doubt will creep in. He said Albert Haynesworth had a lot to do with the Commanders coming up with the stops. He disagreed with a notion that the Cowboys ran finesse plays from close in.

"We've been successful," Phillips said. "We were one of the most successful and Marion was one of the most successful guys and has been through his career, so I think we can get back to that."

Yes you have been successful, now your not. You need to change Wade, teams have figured out you are going to give Barber the ball at the same gap.
Now you need to change. This drives me nuts about Phillips.

Isn't that pretty much what the blog entry says is happening?

Sounds to me he simply thinks handing the ball to Barber is suddenly going to work again.

Look at the screen shots.
Barber was horrible.
All he had to do was stay right and he gets 2 yards. He cut right back into Haynesworth.

I was yelling at Flo to push the pile there do something...Just stood there...same as Roy on Wittens long run..

Flo tried to block two men, failed to block either.

Leonard Davis just dove forward so that accounts for 3 of the 4 unblocked players, and the 4th was Haynesworth.

For the Love of *** why dont they try a play action pass? Everyone is keying on the run and it has worked before. Why not try it again? Is Garrett that hardheaded to try and NOT mix things up? I mean he needs to be more creative then these straight dives up the middle. Boy I wish we had a true Off Coordinator.

I cant question the playcalling at all, due to the fact that those are the plays that Dallas is successful running.

That's what has always killed me about those jumbo packages in short yardage...

Hell, I'd put in 4 wr's...spread the defense out...

I've never understood goal line packages.

I've also never understood the thought process of having your biggest, slowest back as the goalline back.

The surest way to not gain a couple of feet or inches is to get caught in the backfield ... so by all means let's give the ball to the guy who takes the longest to accelerate.

Also, heaven forbid we give it to a smaller back who could possible slip in the crease and and crevasses and pick up a couple of inches. No, let's give to the big guy who runs upright and gives defenders a huge target.

to be fair, Fat Albert pushes most Olinemen back

that's why he's usually doubled

Also, we run behind Leonard Davis every short yardage situation. So Albert Haynesworth can just crash down and completely abandon his gap knowing we'll never run to his side. When a man as big and quick as Hanyesworth can jump an angle like that with complete confidence and abandonment no guard is going to win leverage from that angle.

why not a naked boot leg with Felix trialing Romo and go around the DE end

then Romo has the option to throw to Felix
