DMN Blog: Cowboys Player Stock...

Positive news about Carpenter...he needs to make some noise.

Conflicting reports about Brad Johnson....Archer has given him props. I think fans are making too big a deal concerning his arm strength.

Simms wouldn't be an upgrade over Johnson. Come on, the guy hasn't played football in two years and you want to depend on a guy like Simms. The dude just sucks. I know the university of Texas fans have a heart for former players but come on...

I am not a UT fan in any way shape or form.

I saw Simms play with some serious attitude before he got hurt in Tampa. Johnson has played very little football for the last year and is going to be 40 come week 2 of this season. He's shown no ability to do anything but throw dump offs. If he showed he was some great mentor to Romo it would be one thing -- but he hasn't at all.

Yeah, I got it.

Who sucks better:

Brad Johnson-Hoover or Simms-Eurika

It's all about the suction pressure, right??

yes, but one of those vacuums is much newer and may improve. the other should retire

I agree with Johnson is done but... You can't say you would be comfortable with Simms as your QB if Romo is out for an extended time, would you?

With teams having to cut down to 53 players in September, I'd rather wait to see what come available before even think Simms.

I'm really curious as to what the issue is with Culpepper or Leftwich (in that order).

I think either would be a significant upgrade over what the team has and both should be eager for the chance at a possible ring.

I agree 100% and Simms would be right behind them, with Brad Johnson way behind all three. I'm ready to kick BJ to the curb.

Isn't Simms still under contract. Any trading we do, I'd prefer a vet WR, not happening.

How about we get some Culpeppers to go with our hot tomales, (esta bien con usted).

Culpepper and Leftwich think they are still starters.

About 20 starting QBs in the NFL; hmm, that's probably more then I would have said.

Well I reached 20 but had to include Grossman at 20th in the list to get there. Not in right order so don't get upset & maybe I left somebody out.

Brady
P. Manning
Romo
Palmer
Brees
Rothsenberger
Hasselbeck
Favre?
Gerrand
Warner
McNabb
Eli Manning
Garcia
Kitna
Cutler
Shaub (sp?)
Campbell
Rivers
Young
Grossman

I left rest of the QBs off cause they either haven't played anywhere near enough or have and we don't want to discuss them.

Yup.

An upgrade is an upgrade.

I guess Leftwich/Culpepper have either injury issues/too expensive or coaching staff think that they aren't upgrades over B Johnson.

Who else is out there?
Culpepper had something at one time and I might give him a shot. But Lefty sucked (way more than the others) all along and I never understood what people saw in him.

I'd drop Grossman and include Delhomme...even with his recent issues Jake is better than Grossman.

Stock down

5. Brad Johnson. Fell down a few times on handoffs and throws continue to look slow.
Watch those last cuts teams make before the season opener.

The time might be right to make a move at back-up QB.

Our current situation is making me very nervous.

Bringing in a Culpepper could cause other problems.
What if Romo ha a game this year like last years game against the Bills dissaster. Are player and media calling for the QB switch....

I think Dallas stays with what they have.
They should have drafted a guy in the mid rounds , they didnt so we are stuck...
Packer,Colts and Patriots all go with unproven younger QBs never going after the Culpeppers of the world .....
Pus I agree with one other posters these guys want to start

The question is does he suck More or Less than Johnson and Bartel?

I'm inclined to think that he probably sucks less and so he would be a good pickup.

Does that make sense to anyone else?

It does to me. I don't know about Simms but anybody who sucks LESS that the back up we have I'm all for it.

The sad thing is that Carpenter has to have a great camp, and I mean a great camp or he's still in the same boat with no real defined role on the defense.

He has to force the coaches to find a way to get him on the field.

And part of that isn't his fault, it's just that this team has really good LB's already in place.

Agreed.

Simms still has a little upside Brad is done, finished. Leftwich (Some wanted over Newman ) Has a weird throwing motion and he's slow. Daunte would be my 1st choice than Simms if he's released. I don't have ANY confidence whatsoever in Johnson

Quick, name a backup QB that might become available that you would be comfortable replacing Romo with.

You can't. Why? Because that mystery guy doesn't exist. Like it or not, Simms is going to be one of the better available backup QBs
