A dozen or so players helped feed more than 200 men and women an early Thanksgiving meal at The Salvation Army's homeless shelter in Dallas Tuesday and it was difficult to figure out who had more fun.
"You get the sense of giving back," linebacker DeMarcus Ware said, "Sometimes people see we get a lot of things they don't have. Some monetary things or some glory and fame from playing with the Dallas Cowboys, but all that set aside the thing that matters to us is giving back. Having that sense of humbleness, that's what we get back from them."
Jason Witten joked that those in attendance were tough on the players, especially after Sunday's loss to Green Bay.
"Here they're not afraid to tell you how it is," Witten said. "'You need to catch more balls, give Tashard Choice more runs. I think Tashard was drawing up plays on the back of paper plates. They're honest and at the same time I think they appreciate what we do and they're huge fans."
Said Choice, "My mom always told me, 'You've got to me more than a football player. That doesn't need to be what somebody remembers you for.' It's important the impact you can gave on people's lives."
The Cowboys were joined by Billy Crystal, who was named an honorary Cowboy and helped serve the meals. Crystal's "700 Sundays" will be at the AT&T Performance Center through Sunday and he donned a No. 9 jersey.
"This isn't going to play well in New Jersey," Crystal joked to the crowd, alluding to his Giants' ties.

No, Billy Crystal has not become some partner with Jerry Jones. No, he's not being signed to help with the running game.
But he will join Cowboys players today to help serve an early Thanksgiving dinner for more than 200 less fortunate at The Salvation Army's homeless shelter in Dallas. Crystal is in Dallas performing his Broadway show, "700 Sundays" at the AT&T Performing Arts Center through Nov. 22.
Among the Cowboys expected to attend are Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware, Orlando Scandrick and the rookie class.
