T.O. has parted ways with two teams in his NFL career. Things did not get better after his departure.
The 49ers went 7-9 in 2003, T.O.'s final season in San Francisco. They went 2-14 the next season and haven't been better than 7-9 since.
The Eagles, coming off a 13-3 Super Bowl season, were 4-3 when they sent T.O. home during the 2005 season. They went 2-7 down the stretch, but Philadelphia did recover to go 10-6 and make the playoffs the next season.
It's tough to draw conclusions from either case, because both teams also lost their quarterbacks. Jeff Garcia also left San Francisco after 2003, and the 49ers have had a revolving door under center ever since. Donovan McNabb's 2005 season ended two games after T.O. (Bonus trivia: Anybody remember the Cowboy who pancaked McNabb on Roy Williams' INT return for a TD?)
But the Cowboys shouldn't fool themselves into thinking the offense would improve by getting rid of their most dynamic playmaker. It might be best for the franchise, however, to begin the post-T.O. healing process as soon as possible.
