Let's just start with this: The Cowboys-Steelers earned a 15.6 national rating (25.7 milion viewers) to rank as the highest-rated and most watched NFL telecast of the season. And I won't even remind you that I predicted it last week.
And now this: I'm worried about my friends at Fox. Here's how their news release on the subject began: "Once again demonstrating the incredible audience reach of premier events on broadcast television..."
That's a shot at cable's ESPN, which outbid Fox for the next BCS contract. Broadcast television outdraws cable every time. It's in more homes. We get it. But Fox for now seems intent on reminding folks they reach more homes and draw higher ratings. But the reason ESPN got the BCS is the same reason that Fox took the NFC from CBS back in 1994. It's all about the rights fees. Leagues and organizations will sacrifice eyeballs for dollars every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Let it go Foxies. Let it go.
