Free agency is 12 hours away.

Don't expect the Cowboys to answer the opening bell.

The Cowboys will be opportunistic over the next few weeks. They will add a few new faces to the roster. But don't look for them to set the market or get into a bidding war for a high-priced free agent.

When asked if the Cowboys would be ready to make a move at 11:01 this evening, executive vice president Stephen Jones answered, "Not right off the bat, no.''

The Cowboys will be ready to pounce if there is a player they want. But they are inclined to watch the market unfold rather than force the issue.

I'm happy to hear we won't be following in the footsteps of Dan Snyder a la 2009 Free Agency.

It has been proven time and time and time again that this is the best way to approach Free Agency.

Other than Deion Sanders or Reggie White, has a big named Free Agent ever pushed a team over the top?

Well played, Dallas. We are a well run organization.

I agree. To sign someone in the first few hours you have to seriously overpay and more often than not that play never lives up to the price. I'd rather they look for targeted upgrades that won't break the bank if the cap comes back allowing us the keep the players longterm.

It is certainly the wise way to approach free agency. Add a couple guys who can fill in some holes, but let the Commanders of the world spend all the money on big name guys and get nothing for it.

I love that we are more and more participating in free agency less and less.

Hopefully we find 5 or 6 more good players in the draft and can stay out of free agency again in the next few years.

Free agency is mostly used by teams that make alot of mistakes or are rebuilding and thankfully we are neither of those options.

Agreed. Though the Pats have used FA pretty well off and on the past few years (though some of their drafts were poor during that time).

I think you just have to pick your spots.

Uh, ever heard of Drew Brees? :D

Dallas going after FAs depends on what starters are getting how much, how much is guaranteed, the difference in skill sets, who our backups are, yada. Hamlin is the only starter who might be on the block, IMO. Rolle for Hamlin is the only thing that looks enticing to me unless they want Marshall. I don't see either one happening esp the latter. Depth along the DL could be one but I think they like our present depth.

This plan may be changing as we speak with the release of Jamal Williams. It would not surprise me one bit if they move quickly on him as long as he checks out physically.

I do kind of like this.

There's really no one to spend the bank on this year.

Antrel Rolle is the only "high price" player I like. But no way do I overpay for him.

Good call.

But, that said, he was more of an under the radar signing on account of his shoulder. I don't think he (if memory serves) was a big money signing.

Also wouldnt surprise me if he weighs 480 lbs right now.

But if he's in shape physically and can still move some, he'd be a nice stop gap backup/short yardage run defense guy for a minimal contract. Not sure what he has left though.

he wasn't as well known as Reggie or Deion. he had the one good year(maybe 2) and than hurt his shoulder in the last game.

Darren Sharper was a pretty big piece to the New Orleans puzzle.
