Three weeks after he decided to leave the Cowboys, Dat Nguyen will return to Texas A&M as the Aggies' inside linebackers coach.

Nguyen spent 2007-09 as an assistant linebackers and defensive quality control coach. He was offered an extension through 2011, but told coach Wade Phillips he wanted to be in a position to be more hands on with players.

"I look forward to working with all of the coaches and staff as well as the outstanding Aggie football players," Nguyen said in a release issued by the school. "I have a great passion for teaching and a great passion to help our team win championships."

Before his seven-year career with the Cowboys, Nguyen earned All America honors at Texas A&M and holds the school record with 517 tackles in 51 straight starts.

The Cowboys have yet to replace Nguyen on their staff.

This should be interesting. No knock on Dat, but this could be a good way to add an upgrade somewhere and not really be obvious about it.

I hope it works out for the best.

His spot would be filled by another young starting coach. And its doubtful that anyone we get would have the experence playing that Dat had.

I'm a little surprised by this news. After he left the Cowboys I didn't think a return to A&M was his plan. In any case I wish him good luck and much success.

Surprised as well. He was a heck of a player and I wish him nothing but the best (except when they play the Longhorns).

Good for him.

He was tired of doing the office work and was wanting to work with young players and try to make a difference ... teaching on the field and off.

This is great for Dat, who was one of my favorite players. But I still can't stand A&M. Unfortunately, he's going to be a great recruiter.

id rather get someone who has strong knowledge of how a 3-4 LB is supposed to be play.

Zach would be a great addition to a 4-3 staff.

I seriously doubt you will see Zack coaching with the boys.

He is smart enough to coach any scheme.
