Three weeks after he decided to leave the Cowboys, Dat Nguyen will return to Texas A&M as the Aggies' inside linebackers coach.
Nguyen spent 2007-09 as an assistant linebackers and defensive quality control coach. He was offered an extension through 2011, but told coach Wade Phillips he wanted to be in a position to be more hands on with players.
"I look forward to working with all of the coaches and staff as well as the outstanding Aggie football players," Nguyen said in a release issued by the school. "I have a great passion for teaching and a great passion to help our team win championships."
Before his seven-year career with the Cowboys, Nguyen earned All America honors at Texas A&M and holds the school record with 517 tackles in 51 straight starts.
The Cowboys have yet to replace Nguyen on their staff.
