Nick Folk has missed six of his last nine field goal attempts. That has opened the door for David Buehler.
Let the competition begin.
"I thrive off competition, that's what I'm looking forward to most,'' Buehler said before Tuesday's practice.
"Nick is a great field goal kicker. I look up to him, I've learned a lot from him mentally and physically about kicking. He's a mentor of mine. I get to compete against him and I'm looking forward to it.
Buehler hasn't kicked a field goal in competition since the first pre-season game when he nailed a 39-yarder agaisnt Oakland.
"Nick is the field goal kicker as of now,'' Buehler said. "It's his job to lose.
"But I'm going to go out there and push him and compete.''

DeMarcus Ware wants to play Saturday vs. New Orleans. Whether he is cleared is another story.
Ware said he will undergo more X rays and have another MRI Wednesday but he has passed all of the tests since suffering a neck injury Sunday vs. San Diego. He will not practice but he said he would be able to play against the Saints even if he didn't practice this week.
In the end, however, he will listen to the medical staff.
"If they tell me not to play, I won't," Ware said, "because the doctors, they know more than I do. Sometimes you can feel good but maybe just that next impact you can make it even worse than it is."
Ware has received treatment the last two days but just finished lifting weights before talking to a handful of reporters. Ware said he felt better today than he did after suffering a sprained neck at Tampa Bay in the season opener. He missed only a short amount of playing time in that game.
"To be honest I feel 100 percent better than [Monday] and better than after the game," Ware said. "I feel a lot better. A lot of the strength in my neck is back, so I'm happy right now."
