Did Garrett use the Ravens?

Baltimore Sun columnist Mike Preston, who seems mad about this whole thing, sure thinks so. From Preston's latest blog post:
Garrett got his money, but he basically looks like a fool around the league. All he had to do was go to Jones in the first place, demand the increase and not fly around the country, putting on this dog-and-pony show. I hope he has good success in Dallas because owners around the league have long memories. They won't forget the charade he just pulled.
Eh, I'd be willing to bet that owners will forget "the charade" if the Cowboys put up 500 points and win a playoff game or two next season. Garrett's work will determine whether he's still a hot head coaching candidate in the future, not whether he hurt some feelings in Baltimore.

Ravens statement on Garrett

There's little question that the Ravens have emerged as a first-class organization since moving from Cleveland (something NFL record books deny ever happened). But they've got a bit of egg on their face now after being left at the altar by Jason Garrett.
Here's the team's official statement on the matter:
We did negotiate with Jason Garrett to become our head coach. In the end, he decided to stay in Dallas. We’re continuing our second round of interviews. We’re excited with the candidates and confident we will select the best head coach for the Ravens.
Eagles secondary coach John Harbaugh, the brother of former NFL quarterback and current Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh, is now considered the leader for what most in league circles regard as a plum job.

Jason Garrett will address his decision to turn down a head coaching offer in Baltimore, pull out of the running for the Atlanta job and remain as Cowboys offensive coordinator at 2 p.m. today at Valley Ranch.
We'll be there, so keep it here to find out what he has to say.

Funny... Terrell Owens also left a bitter taste in the mouth of the ownership of the Ravens, but was picked up immediately by Philly, and then Dallas....

What a whiner this Preston is...he should be more concerned that his favorite team has no QB and a collection of AARP members rounding out other positions. Garrett couldn't rebuild that mess on his own in less than 3-4 yrs.

LOL at Preston... How could RJ turn down "one of the most prestigious jobs in all of professional sports"?

On the other hand... Had this been a Dallas writer blog, it would read, "Jason Garrett predictably left Loserville in favor of a team that can win a playoff game. Did anyone really expect a hot young coach to work for the worst GM in sports? This is yet another indictment of Jerry Jones' ownership and the impending collapse of the franchise."

:D

Who cares! They invited him to interview and he took advantage of the experience and was able to get more money in Dallas. I think he did the right thing all around ending up with an even more solid commitment from Jerry. I think he never really wanted to leave but you have to take advantage of situations when the afford themselves to you. Jerry will open the new stadium with Garrett as head coach in 2009. I've been saying that for a year now, it just makes too much sense.

That what Preston should say, but if you have ever read his Columns he's a bit of a Whiner.

Did this guy stop and consider that maybe Mrs. RedBall is happy in Dallas and theatened not to ride the RedBall Express if he forced her to move?

Troy said he would never, never do something like that. Whatever percentage Jason is paying his agent, he needs to give Troy double.

I do think that Ravens job would have been pretty good. Not only Ozzie supplying you with talent, but the Ravens owner is a really young, flashy guy. The downside is that they have a lot of "Da U" 'tude.

Why is Baltimore a plum job with an old defense, no QB and an oft injured running back?

I think the Baltimore job is pretty good too. The two things that would worry me most about that job are trying to get that locker room in order - especially when you consider that the inmates practically run that asylum and have made it known who they want as coach - and not having a QB.

He used them, abused them, didn't leave flowers when he left, and won't call in the morning.

I think it was Jerry that said, go out and see what you are worth. Then come back to me.

Well, they are miles behind a very young Browns team and perennial Stillah powerhouse. Good luck with all that, Ravens!

Yeah he used them just like all the owners and GMs use the black coaches they fly in and interview just to fulfill the Rooney Rule.
