Don't underestimate Marc Colombo's importance

It's very iffy whether RT Marc Colombo, who is entering the final season of his contract, will be back with the Cowboys next year.
That depends on a lot of factors, such as the development of young tackles Doug Free and Pat McQuistan and the health of Colombo.
Remember, he injured his knee so badly as a Bears rookie in 2002 that he had to sit out a season and a half and was out of football for two months after Chicago cut him in 2005.
Colombo can't move nearly as well as his Pro Bowl linemates, but just ask them how important his experience and mean streak are to that group. Or watch the tape of last season's win over Green Bay, when Colombo suffered a nasty ankle sprain early in the game and still neutralized Pro Bowl DE Aaron Kampman.
"Toughness," RG Leonard Davis said when asked about Colombo. "He's a tough guy. He plays through a lot of injuries and aches and pains, and he's been there."
The Cowboys might be careful on the issue of Colombo's future, but there's no question he'll be a key to this season's Super Bowl hopes.
