Here's what Wade Phillips had to say about injured Cowboys who will probably play significant roles this season:

WR Miles Austin -- Confirmed he's out 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL in his right knee.

LB Kevin Burnett -- Expected back for season opener after getting left knee scoped.

CB Terence Newman -- Groin has recovered well enough to probably practice this week. Might play in preseason finale.

LB Justin Rogers -- He's fine after suffering first-degree sprain of AC joint in left shoulder. "It's nothing," Rogers said on his way to lift weights.

DE Chris Canty -- Dr. Phillips used a fancy term, but Canty basically bruised his butt by his right hip. He's OK.

LB Anthony Spencer -- Should return this week. Spencer said there's still swelling in his right knee, and he's not sure he'll be able to practice tomorrow.

Dang it. I hate to see the 4-6 week tag on Austin. I was hoping for 2-4. Looks like he won't have any real shot at being ready for the opener.

Damn! Tavaris Jackson also sprained his MCL this weekend, and they're predicting he'll be back by the season opener. Miles must've had a more severe sprain.

I wonder if he needs someone to rub it and make it better. :D

Could be that they play different positions making the difference in return times.

Dr. Phillips mentioned that Canty suffered a "gluteal contusion," which is the same as saying a "bruised butt."

The muscles of the "butt" are called gluteal muscles and contusion is a medical term for "bruise"........

I hope that clarifies the "fancy term" used by Dr. Phillips.....

IMO this is exactely why we need to bring in another top notch WR. This could just as easy be T.O.

Cowboys extensive injury report

Just finished the Wade Phillips press conference and here's the breakdown of the injuries:

* WR Miles Austin will be out 4-6 weeks with an MCL sprain.

* LB Kevin Burnett, who had minor knee surgery, should be ready for the season opener vs. Cleveland Sept. 7.

* LB Anthony Spencer (knee) is expected to return to practice this week and said the swelling has reduced "somewhat."

* CB Terence Newman is progressing well and should practice this week and may return for the final preseason game against Minnesota on Aug. 28.

* LB Justin Rogers and FB Ronnie Cruz had Grade 1 shoulder sprain vs. Denver but should play this week.

* CB Quincy Butler (hamstring) might return this week.

* DE Chris Canty suffered a bruise butt against Denver.

* DE Marcus Dixon, who has not played in a preseason game yet, is still bothered by a back problem. Wade said he's not sure if Dixon will play Friday.

It just depends. I had a friend play a whole season with a partially TORN MCL. It swelled, he iced and was back on the field every week. The Doc said it could get too much worse, so he played. What you have to be careful about is having other ligaments compensate for the torn/ weak one, which can lead to other knee injuries (ACL/PCL, etc).

Anthony Spencer I hope it's nothing serious. I can live without Miles and Burnett. I also dont think newman should practice. Hold hIm out untill He's 100% ready to go.
