Ed "Too Tall" Jones is making the rounds at Super Bowl XLIV for the official Van Heusen Pro Football Hall of Fame Fan's Choice by JCPenney. In that fan vote, Jones is doing the best out of all the candidates that aren't in the final 15 under consideration by the HOF selection committee. The support hasn't been lost on the 15-year Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman.

"I haven't played since 1990, and every year I've been on the ballot, I usually get bumped around when they make the final 15, so for the fans to still remember me, I'm so blessed and honored that they do. I truly played the game like I felt the game should have been played. I tried to play at a Hall of Fame level. Hopefully, I made people better around me. I played 15 years. So, it's good to be recognized by the fans."

It's an insult that he isn't in the HOF but then again, it's also a joke that Howley or Drew Pearson are not either.

As much as I feel that Too Tall and other great Cowboys before 1985 belong in the Hall of Fame, I really don't think we will see any of them in there.

Cowboys in the Landry era that I feel belong in the Hall of Fame:

Lee Roy Jordan
John Niland
Cliff Harris
Drew Pearson
Too Tall Jones
Harvey Martin

I really like the idea of the fan vote. But they don't need to have first ballot players in the group. Emmitt and Rice don't need the fans help to get them into the hall of fame. I didn't even vote for Emmitt, and he is my favorite all time player. Let's get Haley and Too Tall into the hall of fame.

I'd add Chuck Howley and Jimmy Johnson to that list. If a coach wins 2 superbowls and builds a team that is considered one of the greatest dynasties ever, he deserves the highest honor, no matter if he didn't win another ring w/another team (Lombardi anyone?) or coach for some ugodly number of years (purely subjective).

"Too Tall" would've been a shoe-in for the HoF if he had only jumped a microsecond later and blocked Montana's throw that would eventually be called "The Catch" that kept the Cowboys from playing in the Superbowl.

or played one season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It seems like everyone from the Steelers are in the Hall of Fame.

Sadly, there's a lot of truth in what you say. I went to a book signing with Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris, and both agree that it was due to the losses against Pittsburgh in Superbowl X and XIII that kept several Cowboy players from reaching Canton.

I so hate Pittsburgh.:bang2: :banghead: :bang2:

I debated Howley - and I am still teetering on that one.

But Jimmy Johnson? Sure, but I originally kept that in the Landry era.
