Newman practices ... kinda of
Don’t expect injured cornerback Terence Newman to be a sure thing any time soon. With the way his injured foot is progressing, he agreed that he will likely be a game-time decision for the next few weeks.

“Yeah, I’ll give you that,” Newman said.

And that’s about all he’s giving out.

Newman dressed for practice and was on the field during Wednesday’s session. He did some light running drills, but nothing heavier.

Newman, who missed the final three preseason games and the regular-season opener with a tear in his plantar fascia, will likely test his foot before Sunday’s game in

Miami

. That’s what he did before the regular-season opener, and determined it didn’t feel well enough to play on.

That leaves Jacques Reeves as the starter.

It's the opp for me...Newman is the far more valuable player, and IMO Ellis isnt going to be a huge impact when he returns anyway...he probably needs weeks (if not a month or two) to make any real contribution...he's still only 10 months from when the injury occured, the and achilles is definitely a 12-15 month rehab

Baby steps, so yeah.

Problem is both bursitis and plantar fasciitis are somewhat lingering problems, no way to be sure when they'll be 100%

Phillips not counting on Ellis, Newman this week
Wade Phillips said it was encouraging that Greg Ellis and Terence Newman participated in today's practice, but he's planning as if they won't play against the Dolphins.

"We've already gone through all this," he said. "If they're there, they're there. If they're not, they're not. I'm planning on who we have, and if we get an addition, that's certainly great."

Phillips said Ellis, who was the only Cowboy not wearing shoulder pads, did limited work in today's practice. It was a step forward, but Ellis has a long way to go to get game ready.

Newman worked primarily with the scout team, making a nice interception. Phillips said Newman still isn't comfortable making certain cuts.

I'd rather not have Newman practicing. He needs rest and practicing too early will only set him and the team back. The Dolphins can be handled without him and Reeves could use the PT.
