Ellis out; Newman TBD

Wade Phillips announced that Greg Ellis wouldn't play against the Dolphins, and Terence Newman would be a gametime decision.

Ellis has not had a setback since returning to practice this week. He's just not far enough along in his rehab from a ruptured Achilles tendon to play yet. He went through individual drills for the first time yesterday. Maybe next week for him.

The other highlight of Phillips' press conference this morning was him getting out of his chair to demonstrate how quickly the Dolphins' defense morphs from a 3-4 to 4-3. Pretending to be Jason Taylor, Phillips got in a linebacker's stance before putting his hand on the ground. His technique looked pretty sloppy, so he did it again, cranking his right foot in the air for emphasis.

Wade and injuries
Check this out, I believe Wade Phillips doesn't know when players, such as Greg Ellis and Terence Newman, are coming back from injuries.

However, Phillips does know a lot about the type of injuries they have. Sometimes, Phillips doesn't always address that to the media. That's his choice.

So, when I see people on the blog comment about Phillips not being truthful about injuries, it's not true in my opinion. Sometimes, we in the media, me most times, want to know more about certain guys and when they're coming back.

In reality, the team and the players really don't know. Sometimes the media and fans, or me mainly, has to just accept it.

My bet is Newman suits up, but sits on the sidelines unless we really, really need him.

Its crazy to even comment on Ellis and his playing status right now. He won't be back till mid season I would imagine.

Get used to Newman being gametime decision

CB Terence Newman said his partially torn right plantar fascia feels "a little better," but he won't know whether he can play until he tries to run and cut a couple hours before the game.

"It's probably going to be that way for a while," Newman said. "We don't know how it’s going to feel from week to week, day to day. I'll warm up before the game to see how it feels. If it feels good enough, I'll go."

Newman, who has participated in parts of the last three practices, made it clear that he does not want to play if he doesn't feel healthy enough to perform well. He played on a bad knee a few years ago and said he "stunk."

Newman said it's possible that he could get a pain-killing shot before the game, but he's hesitant to do so. He fears that playing with a numbed foot might make the injury worse.

"I'm not going to put myself out there if I can play," he said. "Nickel, dime, base, whatever -- it doesn't matter. I'm not going to play if I'm not ready."

I just dont get it.

It IS a TEAR. Let it heel completely.
Or is that illogical?

I'm starting to think Newman is soft. Just get out there and play.

The way I see it Newman and Ellis will return when they feel they can play and contribute to the team. I think it is a good sign that both guys have been involved in practice and I look forward to their return.

Id rather see Newman sit until after the bye then get back out there early and have it linger all year.

Assuming Ellis DOES come back - he will be a liability out there. There are an awful lot of folks thinking all our defensive problems will resolve themselves when Ellis gets back in there. Not gonna happen.

Not yet, hopefully down the road...

At least he's practicing, so that's a good sign. Something special is happening to this team...

Watch and see....

I agree - this team has a sort of swagger that was almost not allowed in the Parcells era. The offense is not afraid to shove it your face and the new regime appreciates the offensive potential.

The defense has to obviously step it up and then we're in business.

Give me a break. He is one of the hardest working guys on the roster. He puts in more time in the weight room any anyone on our roster. Just because he is hurt (legit injury) doesn't mean he is soft.

By the time Ellis finally returns, he may not be as productive as Spencer. Not saying Spencer will be All Pro, but we don't know at what level Ellis will be able to play.

This is the first game he has ever missed ..... I think you are soft in the head if you believe that.
