Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
Emmitt Smith made an appearance at the morning's practice. He stopped by with his son on the way to the golf course, sticking around for the whole workout and spending some time with the running backs.
There's been a lot of debate around these parts about whether Jerry erred by drafting Felix Jones instead of Rashard Mendenhall. The NFL's all-time leading rusher believes the Cowboys picked the right back.
"I think Mendenhall is a very good back," Emmitt said. "I just think Felix has a lot better hip movement and cuts better in traffic."
Emmitt gave the backs pointers on how to run routes and get separation from linebackers. Jones, who grew up a Cowboys fan during Emmitt's glory days, called it "information that's going to help me carry on for the rest of my career."
Jones didn't get too wide-eyed when approached in the middle of practice by Emmitt, since the rookie didn't see the legend until he was a few feet away. And they only chatted for a few minutes.
"Man, it was amazing seeing somebody of his stature coming around," Jones said. "And then coming around to give me some advice ... I appreciated that."
