Felix Jones might be the next Brian Westbrook

The Cowboys sure hope so, at least.

"That's kind of why we drafted him," Wade Phillips said. "We felt that he was in that mode of a versatile guy who can catch the football out of the backfield, split him out some if you have to and run with the football. He gives you that explosiveness.

"If you find a Westbrook, that would be really something. But we like Felix, and hopefully he'll come along in the right direction."

The 5-10, 203-pound Westbrook has developed into one of the league's elite all-around backs, racking up 4,020 yards from scrimmage over the last two seasons. He's proof that a guy like Jones, who is generously listed at 6-0, 212 pounds, can be much more than a scatback.

One major difference between the backs is that Jones came into the NFL with high expectations as a first-round pick. Westbrook, a third-rounder from Villanova, only touched the ball 55 times as a rookie in 2002.

Don't put him in canton just yet.

Comparing him to Westbrook doesn't mean they are putting him in Canton. Hell, Westbrook isn't gonna make it to Canton.

I just want him to be as smart as Westbrook.

He has the athletic talent and now he just has to get his mental skills on the same level. That will come in time.

I just hope he doesn't resemble him as far as the injury report goes because every now and then Westbrook will miss a game.

That's a fair comparison. And having to split the load will not only extend his career, but make him that much more explosive since he'll rarely be tired or worn down.

Last year when he could have scored a TD. That would have put the ball in the hands of romo, with about 2 minutes or more in the game. Instead in went down at the 1 yard line. The Eagles ran out the clock.

Or was that some other player?

You can learn the effectiveness of that playing Madden. I don't think that qualifies anyone for mensa.

That was classy more than it was smart IMO. They would have won by 11 instead of 3 if he had just gone in.

punk is right, but by all accounts, Felix picks things up quickly because he works so hard at it

Why can't anybody let Felix just be Felix?

Personally, I was more excited when Felix was in there in the second half. Mainly because we've already seen what Barber can do.

The coaching staff never should have had an essentially 1 RB set the entire time. I don't think another RB even got into the game until he was hurt.....when was the last time that has happened? I can't remember any team doing that. Yet, that's what we did.

I really thought that Felix would have gotten in there sometime late in the frist qtr. early in the second.

I really like felix's balance, he does little hip shifts to get through holes, it doesn't look all that pretty but it seems very effective. Very impressed with him.

Yes he is. Maybe not if his career ended today, but a few more seasons of greatness and he's in.

Too late, the NFL already sent him there with the other rookies during the summer.
