Free agency starts March 5, but don't look for the Cowboys to be big players on the open market.

They don't have many must-haves and there won't be that many players you would actually want to spend a good chunk of change on.

Think back to last year when the Cowboys spent $25.75 million on contracts for Keith Brooking (three years, $6 million), Igor Olshansky (four years, $18 million) and Gerald Sensabaugh (one year, $1.75 million)

They got their bang for the buck in three starters. Chris Canty cost the New York Giants $17 million guaranteed and $42 million total and was hurt for much of the season.

Really, the Cowboys' attention is on the draft. They have a pick in every round but the fifth and could add a pick or two when the compensatory selections are announced.

"Regardless of any system you have, the draft is your lifeline," executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "If you draft well, bring good players in when they're young and develop them, then your franchise is going to continue to be successful. That's why we work so hard at the draft and you have to make every pick count."

Yupp I really hope we trade back and pick up an extra 3rd.

Pouncey(2nd)
McCluster(2nd)
Arenas(3rd)
Calloway(3rd)

Gets those guys with our first 4 picks and we just totally reloaded our team.

I actually think your initial pet would be our dream pick. Earl Thomas: but for a SS role. I think he fits into what we try to do on defense, man coverage on slow WRs and TEs with a SS that has CB skills. Plus he'll provide a play maker for us.

That all depends on if he's available ofcourse.

wow, what a bold statement "you have to draft well" -- duh. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise (see Synder, Dan).
