Franchise tags and Ken Hamlin

Ok, let's clear the air on something.

The Cowboys are not going franchise anyone. Why would they? It's not in their makeup. Now they did it a few years ago with Flo Adams, but have no plans on doing it now.

So, let's stop this “The Cowboys could franchise this guy or that guy”.
It's not going to happen.

There's been talk on the blog that Ken Hamlin could leave the Cowboys for someplace else.

Sure he can. But Hamlin would prefer to remain in Dallas.
The Cowboys have a good relationship with Hamlin's agent Kennard McGuire, who did the big money deal for Andre Gurode last year and was Terence Newman's original agent.

Hamlin solidified the free safety position last season (second on the team with five interceptions) and is the only starter in the secondary to start every game in 2007. Think about that for a moment. Cornerbacks Anthony Henry and Newman missed games due to injuries and Roy Williams was benched for two games so the Cowboys could play a special nickel package.

There is a good chance that Hamlin returns.

I certainly hope that he is resigned but this guy has about as much weight with me, in terms of being part of the decision making process for either the Cowboys and/or Hamlin, as the average Joes on this forum.

That is to say he holds no credibility. He's simply writing an article. I'll believe all that when I see it.

I for one don't think Hamlin is that great.

Maybe not but for this team he is very good. And sometimes you have to do whats best for your team.

I don't think he's great, but I do think he was a great fit here. I hope he stays.

I don't believe anyone is saying Hamlin is a great FS but he is better than any FS on the squad and better than other FS' we've had for sometime. Hamlin is still relatively young so he could get better.

Does C. Watkins visit this board? He seemed to be talking directly to CZ.

Hamlin may not be a GREAT free safety, but he is solid and on a team with this talent, I will take SOLID. Personally, I would rather him move to strong safety and rid of themselves of that anchor beside him...but oh well, that doesn't look to be in the cards.

I don't remember franchising Flozell, can anyone confirm this?

We franchised Flo one year but signed him to a long term contract before the start of the season.

I don't think we benched Roy but he was suspended last year.

It's not really news CC, just a perspective. I think Jerry is making a big mistake by letting Hamlin test the market - if he's not locked up by 2/29, I bet we lose him.

Thanks Duane. I do remember now that Flo was given the tag but it was quickly removed after he signed a long term deal.

I know Roy was taken out of games at times but not very often and he certainly wasn't "benched" in any games that I can remember. Of course he got his obligatory suspension but that is a given.

I've said it all along, Hamlin is more than likely getting a long-term deal from the Cowboys... I hope they concentrate on replacing Roy Williams!

I cannot confirm it, although I do remember that they did franchise Adams one time...
