Gerald Sensabaugh should have to hold off rookie for starting job

If a rookie starts for the Cowboys next season, the odds are it will be at safety.
Gerald Sensabaugh signed a one-year, $1.75 million contract to fill the void next to Ken Hamlin. The Cowboys like his coverage skills, and it's possible that Sensabaugh could be a long-term solution at safety. Hamlin is proof that the Cowboys are willing to pay to keep a player who performs well on a one-year contract.
However, it's also possible that Sensabaugh could be a backup next season if the Cowboys draft the right safety. Safety was the only position Stephen Jones specifically mentioned when asked whether he thinks a rookie will have a legitimate chance to start for the Cowboys next season.
"He's got a lot of experience in this league," Jones said. "It would be tough for somebody to dislodge him, but at the same time, if the right guy were to come in and be competitive, we'll look at it and see what happens."
Safety is still the Cowboys' biggest need, since Sensabaugh is only signed for one season and the backups haven't proven to be trustworthy. That doesn't necessarily mean the Cowboys will take a safety in the second round, although it'd be stunning if they didn't snatch up Western Michigan's Louis Delmas if he fell that far.
But if the Cowboys stick to their best-player-available approach, that could mean waiting to take a safety such as Texas Tech's Darcel McBath with a mid-round pick.
