Special teams have been among the most improved areas for the Cowboys until last Sunday.

Mistakes included a missed field-goal attempt, Terence Newman allowing the ball to sail over his head on the punt return, pinning Dallas at its 3, and Patrick Crayton fumbling a punt out of bounds.

Adding veteran Allen Rossum, who ranks second in NFL return yards, makes sense on many levels. It also sends a strong message.

"We've got to play smarter,'' linebacker Keith Brooking said Monday. ``You can't shoot yourself in the foot in this league. Very good football teams will slap you right upside the head.''

This is the first game of the year that our special teams were just pathetic. I am hoping that it was just one of those days for this unit, but they got to pick it up with the hard part of our schedule coming up.

On a side note, I am not getting worried yet about Folk but it is something to pay attention to. I dont blame him for the missed FG since McBriar didnt turn the laces, but it seems that Folk is just not as accurate this year.

I mean, even on his makes the ball is close to the upright. I guess we all got spoiled with him drilling kicks right down the middle, but it just seems his accuracy is just not the same this year.

Is changing the holder really that big of a deal???

shhh,, I WISH Crayton fumbled out of bounds. That would be Ogletree.

Watkins played decent sunday. Didnt do anything great or bad.

So If Sens can't go, we will roll with Watkins and M.Hamlin :)

Our kick and punt coverage was still outstanding, so the special teams werent pathetic.

He's 8/10 and one of those is the miss you just described. He has nailed a couple of long ones already too.

Can be.

It was on the holder. The laces were facing him when he kicked it.

Laces out, McBriar!!!

What I don't understand, is how does this guy get a free pass from the media??? Hamlin's crappy tackling and all round play, GAME IN AND GAME OUT, is about as obvious as the birth mark on Gorbachev's head and about as consistent as the sun rising in the east.

Probably because they remember what we had post-Woody, pre-Hamlin.

Hammered dog turds on boiling tar stinks, but at least we have hammered dog turds on boiling tar out there now.

Remember the Baltimore game with Tra and Watkins in the second half? That line up strikes fear into the wide receivers of PowderPuff games the world over.

Crayton made a bad play on his muffed punt. I was sure the other one he intentionally knocked out of bounds to save some yards; smart play.

The Ogletree fumble was scary but not too unexpected for me; young kid wanting to impress someone.

McBriar not turning the laces was bad.

But Newman made me scream out-loud. I don't know what he was thinking. That was a really bad play. At that point, I decided I never wanted to see him field a punt again.

Then Ware should get a free pass for the rest of his life. Romo too. Sorry, but that excuse does not fly.

A turd is a turd, doesn't matter if the one before it stank more.
