Lord that draft was horrific. Reaching on players cause of need, and not having any cap space or first round picks. This draft still gives me nightmares.

The three amigos or three gloves draft...uggh.

What made it even worse was the idea that they drafted RB Wiley to make him a slot receiver.

I recall after that draft many Cowboy fans were overly excited about the players Jerry drafted, including me!

Sometimes you wonder if it could be the lack of coaching and not the scouting/draft picks...

The 2000 draft is going to be a fun one:

2 49 Dwayne Goodrich DB Tennessee
4 109 Kareem Larrimore CB West Texas A&M
5 144 Michael Wiley RB Ohio State
6 180 Mario Edwards CB Florida State
7 219 Orantes Grant LB Georgia

God save us. Edwards was the best of the bunch.

Mario Edwards was ATROCIOUS.

Every time someone wants to talk about Jerruh and drafts this is the one I pull out and show them.

Yeah, if we can credit the Bill Parcells regime for anything it's changing the way Dallas approaches the draft.

Before Parcells and Ireland took the reins, I don't know if Jerry and Co. would have been able to put together a draft like last year's. The learning experience was good for Jerry and for Tom Ciszowski, and they seem to have taken those lessons to heart.

And I'm not saying Parcells' group was perfect ... there were plenty of mistakes there. But I do believe they had an overall effective approach to drafting that Ciszowski has worked to refine.

It doesn't mean we won't miss on some picks, but I do think it limits reaches and gives the Cowboys a better draft focus.

2000

CB Dwayne Goodrich, Tennessee (second round, 49th overall)

F - Goodrich was a bust who is serving prison time for two hit-and-run deaths after a night at a strip club.

CB Kareem Larrimore, West Texas A&M (fourth round, 109th overall)

F - Character concerns caused him to fall to the fourth, and he proved them right, leading the Cowboys to cut him a month into his second season.

RB Michael Wiley, Ohio State (fifth round, 144th overall)

D-minus - Rushed for 503 yards in three seasons.

CB Mario Edwards, Florida State (sixth round, 180th overall)

B - The bright spot of this awful draft started 47 games for the Cowboys.

LB Orantes Grant, Georgia (seventh round, 219th overall)

D - Had 11 tackles and three fumble recoveries in two seasons as special teamer.

Grade-point average: 1.0 (and we're not even deducting points for giving up the first-rounder in the Joey Galloway trade).

Ekuban proved to be a decent player -- at least in that he could stay in the league -- that year we flipped him and Ellis was dumb. No way a young DE slated as a pass rusher should have been playing the run stopping side

At least for Ekuban he can say he stayed in the league a while and was a servicable player. That's better than a large majority of people who attempt to play NFL football.
