So I just finished re-watching Sunday's game and wanted to chart just how the Giants were able to keep DeMarcus Ware off of Eli Manning.

While watching the game live, I had a sense that New York was funneling everything at Ware with tight ends and running backs helping out their tackles David Diehl and Kareem McKenzie.

After seeing it again, I was surprised there was so much one-on-one work.

On 39 drops by Manning, including penalties, the Giants had their tackles in one-on-one matchups with Ware 20 times. So for about half the time Ware worked against Diehl and McKenzie alone and he didn't get a sack. He got some pressure but Manning did a good job of getting rid of the ball.

Three times the tackles had tight end help and five times they had running back help. Three times Ware went one-on-one vs. the Giants tight ends, but they rolled Manning away from him on two of those plays. Four times Ware dropped into coverage.

And once the Giants threw the tight end, running back and tackle at Ware, and completed a deep ball to Mario Manningham.

On the Giant's final drive, Ware had one-on-one work vs. the tackles five times. The tight ends helped once and the running backs helped three times. Once Kevin Boss had him but it was on a tight end screen that was called back.

If DeMarcus ware and his agent are asking for 100M...he has to sack the QB on that final drive and finish the game. If he cannot do that, ala Ray Lewis, then this defense has ZERO exceptional players. It is all fine and good for him to ask for him...but just because he is SO MUCH better than anyoen else on this defense is not good enoguh...he has to be top 5 in the NFL for that kind of money.

IF we had some depth at OLB, maybe he could actually sit for a play or 2 and not be so winded at the end of the game. No depth = no rest..................

Ware had an amazing game. He was all over the place.

Of course, for some people sacks are the only thing they look for.

What is the basis for your assessment? Why did Ware have an amazing game?

I promise I'm not calling you out. I'm merely curious.

You know, I've been thinking about his contract situation and have been wondering if maybe he's holding off on resigning him because of any potential coaching change that may happen at the end of the year.

If they don't make the playoffs this year I'm pretty sure Wade is gone. If that's the case, then the new HC may want to switch back to a 4-3. Can Ware be that guy? Can he hold up all game at defensive end? He would be a great situational guy, but I don't think he's big enough to go a whole game and I don't think you want him being one of the top paid defensive players in the game if he is playing defensive end.

He was making plays all over the place. Was consistently in the backfield. I can't count how many times he'd make a tackle on the opposite side of the field. The guy is just unreal.

Ratliff did a good job of getting pressure up the middle as well. They had a hard time keeping him blocked.

Even if there's such a thing as a "blueprint", a team has to have the talent to pull it off.

Wow. Just wow. I'm speechless.

We really had a poor game.

If we can be that bad and still only lose by 2, IF we ever put it all together, I like what we can do.

Agreed.

But his number one job is to get to the QB. I'm shocked that it did not happen given the situations he was put in.

He's not getting any richer than he would have been right after the 20 sack year. His money goes down every game.
