So I just finished re-watching Sunday's game and wanted to chart just how the Giants were able to keep DeMarcus Ware off of Eli Manning.
While watching the game live, I had a sense that New York was funneling everything at Ware with tight ends and running backs helping out their tackles David Diehl and Kareem McKenzie.
After seeing it again, I was surprised there was so much one-on-one work.
On 39 drops by Manning, including penalties, the Giants had their tackles in one-on-one matchups with Ware 20 times. So for about half the time Ware worked against Diehl and McKenzie alone and he didn't get a sack. He got some pressure but Manning did a good job of getting rid of the ball.
Three times the tackles had tight end help and five times they had running back help. Three times Ware went one-on-one vs. the Giants tight ends, but they rolled Manning away from him on two of those plays. Four times Ware dropped into coverage.
And once the Giants threw the tight end, running back and tackle at Ware, and completed a deep ball to Mario Manningham.
On the Giant's final drive, Ware had one-on-one work vs. the tackles five times. The tight ends helped once and the running backs helped three times. Once Kevin Boss had him but it was on a tight end screen that was called back.
