Is there room on the roster for 11 rookies?

The Cowboys will be more than willing to listen if/when teams call Sunday offering a future pick in order to move up in the draft. They could also package picks together to move up if there's a specific player they want.

So there's certainly no guarantee that the Cowboys will draft 11 players this weekend. But they'd have no problem if that's the case.

"These picks that we take are going to have a great opportunity to come in here and push the bottom 20 players on the roster," Stephen Jones said. "That's what we want, and that's why I feel like we could easily afford to take 11 picks. I wouldn't rule out 11 picks making the team if we pick them right."

If they have to cut some rookies, the Cowboys are fine with that, too, even with the complications coming due to the looming uncapped season. Stephen Jones pointed out that some rookies would beat out veterans with significant salaries, more than making up for signing bonuses of late-round rookies that would be accelerated against the salary cap.

Hopefully a trade up for Nicks takes care of some of those extra picks.

i think they will package some picks, move around some, up and down,
also they will use one pick to recoup another the 5th 2010 they lost for holland og

I know we won't. But I wouldn't mind an upgrade at

FB
3rd QB
1-2 OL
1 WR
1 DL
2 LB (ILB & OLB)
3 Secondary Players (Safety/CB combos)
Possbily 1 more blocking TE, depending on what we think of Hannah

That said, I'd guess we'll probably only draft around 7 guys when it's all over.

There is plenty of room. Stephen Jones knows what he's talking about.

Let's see how many they get.

Greg Ellis...

Tick...Tock..

So, does Carpenter make it or does he get traded on Draft Day in some package deal?

I don't know if we can get enough in a trade to justify it.

I was thinking JJ could use it more like an excuse to trade Carpenter with saving what little face he can.

For example, "there was a player we liked in the 4th round, we gave the the team our 5th, 7th, plus Carpenter . . . . "

Anyway, you know what I mean. On his own, we probably get only a 6th/7th (if that) for Carpenter if we're lucky.

8.Carlos Polk's Spot
9.Tank Johnson's Spot
10.Anthony Henry's Spot
11.Adam Jones's Spot
12.Tony Curtis's Spot
13.Joe Berger's Spot

I'd rather we keep Polk, Ball, Watkins & Battle. Not enough depth at LB and DB, plus they are good STers.

If anything replace those 4 with:

-Deon "Cricket" Anderson
-Justin Rogers
-Pat McQuistan
-Brooks Bollinger

Plus you left off Brad Johnson, Keith Davis & Terrell Owens' spots. And Sensabaugh has Roy38's spot.

Cowboys will make room for better players, but especially for better attitudes. The bottom 20 should be skurred. Real skurred.

I doubt the boys draft a 3rd QB.

When was the last time, outside of last year.. that we carried 3 qb's?

It was 4-5 years ago, no?

I just doubt they carry 3. Especially with Kitna around. Maybe on the PS??

While I agree with this, there are easily 11 roster spots I think could be upgraded.

I was actually thinking about this today. I wouldn't be against taking 11 players. Maybe take a couple of safeties that have similar grades and see which one wins out in camp, and do the same with other positions. Instead of hoping that we trade up and put our eggs in one basket, spread it out, and this way if one guy doesn't work out, maybe the other guy we drafted is the right guy. Take a couple of WRs, and see which one makes it. This is just an option, it depends on how the draft falls.

Just my opinion, but I believe Greg is as gone as gone can get. As your "Tick...Tock..." indicates, it is just a matter of time:)

So were in agreement. We should use all 11 picks and churn the roster? There is plenty of room for improvement..

What's not being mentioned is the simple historical fact that some guys are gonna get injured, some guys are gonna need a year or two on the practice squad and some guys are gonna just flat bomb. So if there are, say, 8 legitimately open roster spots, then drafting 11 guys would make sense.

Having said that, I doubt we wind up drafting 11 guys.

Couldn't agree more! When a team goes 9-7, there are players that are vulnerable to be replaced.....

Completely. Churn the bottom of that roster, and keep churning it throughout the year! Lets keep the pressure on.
