One of the things Tony Romo is working on this off-season is his posture. Sounds a little funny, but we'll let offensive coordinator Jason Garrett explain:

"It can kind of slow you down," Garrett said. "Without getting too much into it, if you get too bent you tend to move a little more. If you're a little bit more controlled, maybe your movements in the pocket are more subtle ... If you're just too low, sometimes you move too much. A little bit like a golf swing where you bend in the knee and a little in the waist. All of those are things we talk about."

Because of Romo's creativity, he can sometimes get himself in trouble unnecessarily. With good posture, Romo will always be in position to throw the ball instead of having to gather himself and letting it fly.

"I think pocket presence is something that a quarterback always needs to work on," Garrett said. "Tony is very instinctive and a natural guy. He sees things and feels things other guys don't, but the more you can kind of work on the fundamentals of your feet and your posture, the better you're going to be. We'll go back and look at games from last year and 90o percent of the time his pocket presence was outstanding. There were times where sometimes he got a little jumpy and he climbs too much or maybe a little too aggressive in his movements and sometimes that can get you in trouble. It's a fine line having presence and moving away from somebody but that moving too much and getting in trouble with somebody else."

T-Mac just checked in from Valley Ranch to let us know that the only players not participating in today's OTA are Terry Glenn, Ken Hamlin and Jay Ottovegio.

Much more to come later ...

Love to hear this kind of talk. Garrett is teaching Romo all the things which will pay big diviidends on the football field but takes many young QBs years, if ever, to develop. Last week in talking with Spagnola, Sham & Bill Jones Romo mentioned that he was working on "standing tall in the pocket" and cited Tom Brady as the QB who does it very well. "Standing tall" essentially means Romo learns to make all his reads w/o moving around so much (except for those times when his OL collapses on him). It involves Romo learning how to make all his throws from that position. Real interesting.

Can't wait til minicamp next week when the media will be in attendance all 3 days & we hopefully get a lot more reporting on what some of the younger players are doing. We might even see some of the changes in Romo's pocket presence, etc.

As Romo learns more, he'll get better in December and the playoff--so long as all those penalties get cut down a little and his receivers stop dropping passes. Don't forget, the Giants weren't called for a single penalty in that game.

I have a question.... at what point is changing Tony too much? Maybe that posture is what makes him Tony.

Punter from Stanford, he's been missing camps because Stanford hasn't finished yet. At least that was the original reason.

not so sure i agree wholeheartedly with this.. messing too much with what makes certain qbs unique, which then translates into their respective success, can have detrimental effects

Would hope both Garrett & Romo smart enough to know how to further Romo's development w/o adversely affecting what makes Romo so uniquely talented and able to do what he does.

Geez, I thought some of you so eager to see Romo improve & would do anythng to accomplish it. Now all of a sudden there's concern changes might adversely affect his performance. I guess that means that many of you think he's darn good.

Tony has been a guy that has worked on every aspect since he's been a pro including his throwing motion.
