DMN Blog: Jason Witten hopes to play next week

We'll have a better idea whether that's realistic after Jason Witten gets an MRI on his injured ribs tomorrow.

The diagnosis now is that Witten has bruised ribs, which he suffered after making a catch in the first quarter. Witten, who has been playing with a sore shoulder since the second week of the season, returned for the first series of the second half.

"I tried to doctor it up a little bit at halftime and come back, but I didn't have it in me," Witten said. "It's an unfortunate situation to have to come out of the game, because you pride yourself in playing the game. I just didn't have it."

Rookie Martellus Bennett filled in for Witten, catching three passes for 21 yards.

Witten is a always key part of the offense, but he's especially important with Brad Johnson at quarterback. Everybody knows Johnson needs a good checkdown target, and Witten's blocking is a big part of the running game.

Bennett would play well in Witten's absence shold he not play. Witten is a leader on this team, and it would be nice to have for such a key game.

We are really going to get pounded if JW doesn't play. BJ is a serious liability as the QB....he needs to retire....everything else aside, his accuracy is horrible.
