Cowboys continue to believe in themselves

Jason Witten popped on with Rich Eisen on NFL Network last night as part of promotion for Saturday night's Cowboys visit to the Superdome to play the undefeated Saints.

Asked about the team's offense, the tight end had this to say:

"We're a group that makes a lot of plays and have had success....We're a good offense and have a lot of weapons that make plays. These next three games, we have to continue to do that."

Everybody is starting to sound like Wade Phillips.

It's a bad thing when you're players and coaches all seem to be on the same page. Especially when they're right.

What exactly is Witten supposed to say?

We suck and we are just going to try and keep the Saints below 50 points.

How about we have put ourselves in a must win situation and "we need to win." Seems like all of our players avoid saying these Decmeber games are must win games.

"This is an important football game for us in trying to accomplish the goals we want to accomplish," Romo said. "This game means a lot. Obviously it's a great challenge. Everyone knows that. It's a good football team we're going against, but we're not walking in thinking this is their homecoming either. I think that we think this will be a game that we will go out and compete in and if we play to the best of our abilities, we think we have a chance."

Players understand what is going on and the importance of these games they are not going to start pointing fingers at each other or actling like all is lost.

It's not a must win game. If they lose, then the next two are must wins. If they finish 10-6 with two wins over the Eagles, they'll probably win the division.

Not exactly true. Most think if Dallas goes 2 out of 3 they are in but we then have to depend on NY losing. 3 wins and no doubt about it we are playoff and division winner. 2 wins there is a good chance but it then depends on what another team does. So in some ways this really is a must win since Dallas has no control over what NY does.

That is because if they don't win like they didn't last week the media and fans act like the sky is falling and the words will be thrown back in their faces. They have to play again next week no matter what happens. I believe they understand how big the game is. They just don't want to give ammo to people like you

If the players believed in themselves, they would have no problem calling this game a must win. Then they would in effect be forced to live up to their own expectations, right?

The problem is they all have allowed that "seed of doubt" to grow bigger and bigger every year. And the even bigger problem is they truly do not believe they can beat the Saint's. Great teams look forward to the chance of performing on the big stage. Our team waits for the moment to call it quits in big games.

That is an opinion. Or maybe they know how big the game is and don't want to keep raising the stakes so that the entire season looks lost if they happen to lose. You seem to know a lot about what they are thinking. You must be in the locker room

You don't have to be in the locker room to know this team lacks the confidence it needs to win games in December. There's no doubt this team understands how big this game is. The problem is this team seems to take the easy way out when the stakes are raised. I hope as much as anyone that they can find a way to turn it around. However, they don't seem to be saying or doing anything that would lead us to believe that things will be different tomorrow night.

As far as raising the stakes...There's nothing wrong with stating the obvious. If we lose tomorrow, we will no longer control our own destiny. We will then be left with the hope that enough other teams lose for us to get in.

I'm sure there are a few people on here who remember the bold predictions that Jimmy used to make before big games. Our teams back then weren't afraid of his predictions because they believed in each other and they knew how to put teams away. Both of these traits are missing from the current squad.

I really do hope they prove me wrong tomorrow...but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Witten believes time for talk is over

David Moore/Reporter Bio | E-mail | News tips

Tight end Jason Witten knows what's at stake over the final 16 days of the regular season.

"You always hear that December is when teams start playing their best football,'' Witten said. "That's the way we have to do it.

"We've let opportunities slip by and had some bumps in the road, but I think this group is still very confident and we have to show it now. We can't talk about it. We've got to go play our best football.''

Why do I have little faith that will happen?

Man I hate feeling that way.
