Hutchinson wanted out of Seattle, badly. By all accounts, Austin wants to stay in Dallas.

I doubt he'd sign a deal like that unless the Jets make him a ridiculous offer and told him sign it now or it's dead.

If that were the case, it would probably be a deal Dallas wouldn't match anyway.

If Austin really wants to stay then why would he be negotiating with another team? Anyone who negotiates is committed to leaving if the deal is good. If he wasn't the Jets wouldn't even be talking to him.

In all fairness wouldn't Austin owe it to himself to seek out the best possible deal?

Because Dallas is offering a one year, $1.5M deal, and the NYJ may be offering substantially more.

Your post makes no sense.

And your post shows that you fail to understand the process -- we are clearly willing to offer more than $1.5 mill a year -- how much more? The intrusion of another team into this helps to establish just what we would be willing to pay him.

If he signs an offer sheet it is a clear sign he is happy to be here or happy to be with the Jets.

In all fairness wouldn't the claim that he wouldn't sign the deal because he "really wants to be here" constitute a moronic statement?

He was referring to the poison pill deal, not any deal at all. Which is true, if Austin wants to be a Cowboy he wouldn't sign a poison pill deal, he'd sign a normal contract and hope the Cowboys matched it, if not then he'd be happy going to Jets and making some nice money for a team that wanted to give it to him.

This quote from Captain America is 100% on:

The interesting thing is that before last pre-season, Miles was in danger of being cut. He couldn't catch a cold, he was very green in his route running and Hurd was ahead of him. Now after a decent/good pre-seaon last year and an injury plagued regular season, he's become a John Taylor type compliment receiver in the eyes of some.

I think Miles has good potential, and I would like to see him stay and develop, but if the situation was reversed, I sure wouldn't want us to give up a 2nd round pick to get him. Nor will I be mad and upset if the Jets give him a great contract and end up giving us a 2nd round pick to get him.

So if they offered him 3 mill a year and he wanted 3 mill a year he wouldn't sign the deal if it contained a poison pill?

Right. That's just stupid.

Fact is, he wouldn't be negotiating with the Jets if he didn't want to play there.

Not if he thought the Cowboys would match the 3 mil a year. It's not about where you want to play, but where you can play and have the most financial security.

In the NFL you go where you're wanted. The Jets want (or are at least interested) in him. So he went for a visit, that doesn't mean the Jets are his first choice, or that he can't wait to be a Jet. You think TO's first thought after he was released was "I wanna be a Bill"? He's willing to go to the Jets because the Jets might be willing to pay him a good deal of money.

If he wants to be a Jet... he'll sign a poison pill deal, if he has hopes of staying a Cowboy, he'll just sign a normal deal. If Jerry doesn't match it, then I'm sure he'll be happy playing for the Jets... the team that wanted him.

Edit: Of course the Jets could also make him an offer he simply couldn't refuse. Which in that case, it's likely we wouldn't match the deal anyway.

He wants to be either a Jet or a Cowboy. That's what you aren't understanding. He isn't negotiating with the Jets because he doesn't want to be there -- there is no point to getting an offer sheet if you aren't committed to that team because once you sign the offer it is out of your hands - you'll be playing for one team or another. He's reportedly there for a two day visit. You don't make the sort of visit to screw around. You can be damn sure that the Jets aren't putting any numbers on the table unless he's signing the offer. Teams aren't stupid when it comes to RFAs. The Jets aren't going to do all the legwork to get a deal structure in place and allow Austin to bolt. Whether the deal has a poison pill or not is irrelevant.
