Joe Horn talk means no talking Terry Glenn

All this talk about Joe Horn possibly/maybe/could be coming to the Cowboys doesn't appear to be the real issue. Today's water-cooler player is just the start of the subtle squeeze on Terry Glenn.

If Glenn thinks the Cowboys will blink in his standoff over the split-salary issue, that's fine. But he best be ready for more scuttlebutt like such as this all through July.

Let's say just for argument the Cowboys have no real interest in acquiring Horn. But at least they're kicking it around at Valley Ranch. What would it take to get him? How could he fit in? What does that do to Miles Austin and Sam Hurd? Next thing you know, the Cowboys are kicking the tires on Detroit's Roy Williams or whoever else might be out there.

And while all this talk is going on, Glenn fades into the background. By no means should Glenn balk in his stalemate if he truly believes in his position. But come July 24, the Cowboys will be ready to move forward without him. Is Glenn ready for that?

The real question is what do you do with Stanback? IMO Hurd and Austin have a place on the 2008 team, but if we keep 5 WRs and either have Glenn or another vet like Horn, what happens to the "project"? Maybe we keep 6?

6 were on the roster last year, I don't see why that would change.

Even if Glenn would have been 100% last year, I still think the team would have kept 6.

Yeah, more than likely... besides, the 3 youngsters (if you don't count Crayton) are still seen as the possible future receiving corps...

so until on or more of those 3 either make or break themselves, we'll probablly keep it at 6.

I think the Joe Horn thing may just be clever bargaining by Jones to get Glenn to agree to the contract.

I hope the something is cutting Glenn, passing on all other teams WR scrubs, and focusing on developing young talent on the team.

If we pick up a WR through a trade, he should be less than 30yrs old.

I say keep Glenn, make him the #3 and also put him out when we need a deep threat.

It will aid in his knees holding up for the rest of the season, and give us that threat when we need it.

I totally agree. Either way.

On one hand, it seems like a ploy by Jerra cause Horn is no player.
But if so, why would Jerra go with such a minor character? Why not express interest in other WRs, like some marquee players who might have beefs with management.

I've come to terms that Dallas does not need another marquee besides T.O. when there is Witten and then the emerging talents of Hurd, Stanback and Austin. That at least one of these three will emerge as a premier receiver goes against reason.
And there is always the chance that Crayton will emerge as a No. 2. other than by depth need and Jerra's big financial thank-you last year.

In short, we don't need a second Terrell Owens.

I have lots of expectations the young receivers will break out and big time.

I understand your logic, but I disagree that Glenn can stay healthy or be effective as the #3 WR.

I would rather have Austin be the speed guy this year, and Austin or Hurd can provide a lot more flexibility as a #3 WR than Glenn.

I stand by my "cut Glenn now" theme...he was done a year ago. Rescind offer, and cut him loose...

5 or 6 I think depends on how the younger WR produce. I think for Dallas to keep 6 WR that 6th man has to show the team why he should remain on the roster. I don't think you would want to be forced to cut a player at a another position if that 6th WR is not showing you much.
