With safeties Roy Williams and Patrick Watkins shelved for Saturday's game, Keith Davis will be front and center. Wade Phillips said today that he expects Davis to take on many of Williams' responsibilities defensively, although he wouldn't tip his hand on the nickel linebacker situation, and whether Davis will play underneath (like Roy) or deep (like Watkins)
Either way, expect Davis to play just about the entire game on defense.
And this pro's pro is taking the upgrade in snaps seriously.
The way he put it, pretty simply, is "I'll be ready." Phillips did say that he'll scale back the reps the special teams captain gets with the kick units.
Davis said he's "lobbying" against that, and reiterated that he'll do whatever's asked of him.
"It’s all about just getting the job done, whether I’m playing special teams or playing safety," Davis said. "I’m going to do whatever it takes to help this team win and help this team get back on track. It’s unfortunate that the situation is what it is. But what it all boils down to is everything happens for a reason, I’m here and I’m going to do my best."
