Yes, it's just little old Keith Davis.

But Keith Davis is an important part of the Cowboys football team. He's one of the toughest guys on the team and a special teams captain. After Davis was cut by Miami last year, the Cowboys picked him up quickly.

He's that important.

Now the Cowboys have six safeties on their roster, something we pointed out yesterday, where does that leave Davis?

He could sign with Kansas City, but the Chiefs haven't offered a deal. Washington was a possibility but the Commanders are expected to re-sign Reed Doughty. Davis was in Baltimore earlier this week for the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation dinner. There are numerous teams he could have visited near Charm City, like the Ravens, or flew up to Philly to speak with Andy Reid and the Eagles.

He might have taken a commuter flight to Pittsburgh and speak to the Steelers. Anything is possible.

We know the Cowboys value Davis, but just how much remains to be seen.

Whats kind of interesting to me is amid all this hubabaloo with him going to sign with Kansas City, its the team themselves who haven't offered him a contract. Interesting.

So this means we have no comp pick for Canty at the moment? Grrrr..........

I hope we keep him, we need his leadership on ST and spot play on the defense. The boy is all heart....................................................and bullet holes.

I'm greedy. I want the Comp pick for Canty. He needs to go.

Because we would have lost 4 qualifying players and signed only 3. I THINK.....

We have to lose enough players to get that pick. Right now if he stays we've signed qualifying FA to erase the comp pick we'd get from Canty.

By signing Brookings, Igor, and that other LB we've signed as many qualify FA's as we've lost in Canty, Burnett, and such.

I believe that's why they're saying that.

what am I missing? how does this effect a comp pick for Canty?
In order to receive Comp picks we have to lose more UFAs than we sign. As of right now we are dead even. If Davis signs we will receive a Comp pick in 2010 and it would be for the highest value we lost, which in this case is Canty. Probably a 3rd round pick.

Hope that helps.

We need someone to sign Tank too. That would help.

does sensabaugh not count?

I think Sensabaugh is actually the one who qualifies....I doubt that other linebacker we signed would qualify, but I may be, and am probably wrong on that.

We have signed these UFAs.

Gerald Sensabaugh, SS
Igor Olshansky, DE
Keith Brooking, ILB

We have lost these UFAs.

Kevin Burnett, ILB
Chris Canty, DE
Joe Berger, OG

I am not sure if Matt Stewart counts because he was out of football in 2008. Adam may need to clarify that.

We could still lose these UFAs.

Keith Davis, SS
Brooks Bollinger, QB
Tony Curtis, TE
Tank Johnson, NT
Paul Paulescu, P
Carlos Polk, OLB
Zach Thomas, ILB

We made qualifying offers to these RFAs.

Sam Hurd, WR
Miles Austin, WR
Cory Proctor, OG (why?)
Stephen Bowen, DE

If we lose any of them (please someone take Proctor, Hurd, or Bowen) we would receive that teams 2nd round pick.
