Keith Davis to miss Dallas

Keith Davis is gone. The popular safety will be missed in the locker room for his jokes, hard play and professionalism, though not in that order.

We caught up with KD as he was in Miami, where he just signed a two-year deal worth $3.5 million.

"I've been a Cowboy my whole life that's the only team I've ever known until today," Davis said. "I grew up there, my family is there, I have a lot of friends, a lot of people. But right now, man, it was just time for me to move on and get a new start and try to make the most of this opportunity."

Davis said his familiarity with the 3-4 scheme run by defensive coaches Todd Bowles and Paul Pasqualoni helped in his decision to leave.
Davis said he will miss Dallas because the Italy, Texas native, has family and friends here.

Davis didn't express any surprise that Dallas didn't try to keep him, because he wants more playing time, especially at strong safety, and the Cowboys won't do it with Roy Williams there.

Mostly Keith will miss the early Sunday morning drives to church and the hooligans that try to shoot at him on his way there.

Well, I will miss him. He is a fan favorite at our autograph signings and he gets the fans going at the games.

The one area he will be missed is on special teams. He may not
excel in the safety position but there's no denying they have to get
somebody to step up in what was his best role.

What? Would you want Davis playing more or what?

Not me.

I'll bet money that response and my subsequent response to it are more about Roy's current ineptness and less about wanting Keith Davis to take his place. ;)

Roy Williams :bang2:

You're upset at Roy Williams because Davis is going?

You have to be kidding. I know he was good at special teams but lets get real...thats all he was going to be in Dallas......probably anywhere.

From what I understand it won't take too much to find that sort of trouble in South Beach.

Especially on the campus of the U.

My favorite Keith Davis memory - when he came out of the tunnel during training camp and a fan yelled, "Hey Killer! Stop getting shot!"

:)

I really liked him, he played with emotion and could fill in as a starter in a pinch. I wish him well.

He's a punchline among fans, but I can unequivocally say he was a well liked leader among his teammates. Every time I went to training camp I couldn't help but notice KD was in the middle of a group of people. He was always helping out the younger players and it seemed people just gravitated towards him, offense, defense and even coaches (meanwhile a more highly paid safety on the roster typically stood isolated by himself).

KD played out of position at FS here. He could be a servicable band aid starter at SS for Miami as they focus on more critical positions.

for those of us that attend the games in person, that is exactly what davis does during pregame and during the game. He is a spark plug and his intangibles will be missed. There are not that many emotional guys on this team and losing one of them in a key role as the best special teams player is a big deal to me.

I hope we find an adequate replacement. the last 4 seasons the guys making all the special teams tackles were Fowler, singleton, davis, reeves and abe elam. Now they are all gone. Should be interesting.
