DMN Blog: Larry Allen named to 2000s All-Decade Team

In his last years he was missing blocks because the guys were too quick for him.

My favorite memory of Allen was Madden stating in a game 'Larry Allen just took Hollis Thomas and just flipped him. He just flipped him over like he wasn't there. He just pancaked a pancake block."

At his peak he ate people alive. As I posted players would put themselves on injury reports the week before so that they had an excuse for being humiliated.

I remember all the awesome blocks, the pulls, and him shutting down John Randle and Warren Sapp when both were the best DTs in the game.

I worked with another Cowboys fan who was a security guard at a casino here in town. Larry came in with Wade Wilson and couldn't believe the guy recognized him. He never was one to brag or get attention.

I remember watching that live and thinking no way he just caught that guy from a standing stop.
Man I'd forgotten that incredible play. It just gets more impressive every time you watch it. Best lineman I've ever seen (although Erik Williams pre-accident could also make a strong claim.)

He may have not played at the high level he set early in his career, but his play was still better than a lot of other guards in the league. That is how good he was. He could lose a step and still be a top player.

I remember announcers commenting on him whiffing on blocks later in his career. It was not so much him whiffing as defenders running way around him to avoid contact. In the end that strategy didn't work for defenders because they would run themselves out of the play and miss the tackles. Those defenders made business decisions that didn't help their teams, which means Allen was still doing his job of creating running lanes for the running backs.
How Cowboys fans of all people can deny this is really beyond me. Who was better? Will Shields is the only guy in the same category.

Anthony Munoz is the best I have seen other than LA. He was just all around dominant.

My Fav Larry Allen Moment is in Superbowl XXX. He was pulling and blew up The Steelers Greg Lloyd... busted Emmitt for a 23 yard run on the second or 3 play of the opening Drive.. or was that the 2nd drive that resulted in a TD?

Either way.. I would love to see that viedo again of him blowing Greg Lloyd up

Larry was the only player that I ever saw that made me think twice about wanting to play in the NFL. After watching football and playing football for most of my life, I have watched and played against some extraordinary players. None of them made me pause and think that no way I would want to take on a block or face that guy on the LOS.

Larry is probably the most dominate player to ever suit up for any team and I don't see that changing any time soon. That dude straight up scared players, lol.

There was a time or two that Erik Williams made me feel the same way. I remember watching Reggie White throw 300lbs offensive linemen literally into the air like a rag doll. Then I remember watching Erik William slap Reggie down like a rag doll! :laugh2:

Another good point but there weren't too many DL(s) that had Erik Williamitis, lol. You are getting paid to line up against Larry and suddenly come down with a mysterious injury the week of the game.:laugh2:

Didn't Big E make the reverend cuss (rest his soul), lol? Now that is an *** kicking.
