TE Martellus Bennett and LB Bobby Carpenter were the new guys not practicing today.

Bennett was complaining about his tummy aching on Twitter yesterday. Not sure what might be ailing Carpenter.

WR Sam Hurd (quadricep) didn't practice for the second consecutive day. DE Marcus Spears returned to practice after sitting out yesterday due to a sore quad.

LB Stephen Hodge, who has struggled to come back from off-season knee surgery, still hasn't practiced this week. Wade Phillips said Monday that he hoped Hodge would be able to play in Saturday's preseason game against the 49ers.

QB Stephen McGee (knee), LB Justin Rogers (knee), FB Deon Anderson (knee) and DE Marcus Dixon (groin) aren't expected to play against San Francisco.

Cowboys move up practice time

In their first nod to the scorching heat, the Cowboys have moved practice from 1:15 p.m. to 9:45 a.m.

After 30 practices inside the Alamodome, the Cowboys have returned to Valley Ranch to get used to the heat for the Sept. 13 opener at Tampa Bay. But there is a fine line of suffering through the temperatures and not getting enough work done.

Because the team no longer has an indoor practice facility, the Cowboys will do what they can to get their work in under any conditions. If there is rain, they have the option of moving to the new stadium or go to a indoor facility at a local high school.

It seems that Wade is being very cautious with his players, it is obvious that Dallas wants as many people healthy for week one as possible, and I have no problem with that.

Especially how the Eagles and Giants are dropping like flies. We need to be healthy and hopefully stay that way throughout the season.

Why not just have all the practices at the new stadium?
By the time the season starts we won't have much more experience there than our opponents.

They should definitely practice several days in the new place. Not much of a home field advantage yet.

I agree. We especially need to get our punt and kickoff returners some practice locating and catching the ball while looking up in front of the HDTV and it's undercarriage.
