Mike Jenkins close to winning cornerback shuffle

The Cowboys have alternated Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick as the starting right corner the first three games. Sunday's game against Denver was scheduled to be Scandrick's start.

Not so fast. Wade Phillips said Tuesday that he will discuss that with his staff, a clear indication he's leaning toward naming Jenkins the starter.

"I thought Jenkins had a good game,'' Phillips said. "That (starter) is to be determined tomorrow, really.''

He might not want to discuss it, but it was automatic the first three weeks.

"It was,'' Phillips said. "But we're going to discuss it.

"I thought he (Jenkins) played well. He did miss a tackle, but he did make a lot of tackles. And of course, he made our first interception which everybody was relieved.

"The tough thing is, Jenkins only plays corner. He's a corner in regular and corner in our sub package. But Scandrick has to play inside on our sub package and outside on our regular package. That made it harder for him than we thought it originally would. We have to factor that in.''

The nickel CB plays so much that he's essentially a starter.

Hope this just makes Orlando play that much harder.

it's obvious Scandrick will take over for Newman when he retires/gets released. I really like what Alan Ball showed last night also

I'll be the first to admit Jenkins is the better CB now... Scandrick will see the field but he's got to pick his play up.

Allan Ball has made some good strides as well... He's got really good height and is around 195/200 lbs which is good for a CB.

Lord please let us dump Ken Hamlin in the off season, he's useless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wade,

Put Mike Jenkins on Brandon Marshall and Terence Newman on Eddie Royal.

Just DO IT!!!

Scandrick and Jenkins are both the future of the Dallas Cowboys at CB.

If I read between the lines....looks like Jenkins is the starter....:starspin

I would flip that match up. Marshall is too strong for Jenkins. Newman relishes the contact and is a better wrap up tackler.

What Wade should do is stop playing man off. Neither Newman or Jenkins excell in that. And as much as I like Scandrick, Jenkins has earned the start at corner.

Although where the heck was Jenkins 4.3 speed on the Dante Rosario TD?

Waiting for that inside help that never arrived from 26

Scandricks play vs. the Giants has me thinking Jenkins might not win the starting CB job more than Scandrick might lose it.

If I was Wade I would wait one more week to decide the starter. It's not as if Jenkins had a great game week 1.

Jeez, what is with all this talk? Scandrick was admittedly tight in his first start, against the Giants who are easily our toughest matchup so far this season. Let's cut him some slack and at least wait and see what he can do against the Broncos! He has more responsibilities than Jenkins, playing both slot and outside, and he's gone up against a better QB in his one start. If he isn't up to the task this week in Denver, and Jenkins has another solid game in KC, then yes Jenkins should be named the starter for the rest of the season. But let's give Scandrick one more chance at least to show what he can do, agreed?

i love Scandrick....but i feel we should go with Jenkins and stick with him....hes a play maker...and shows flashes of greatness

and hes 2-0 as a starter
