Mike Jenkins is practicing for the first time since spraining his right ankle eight days ago.

Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones raved about Jenkins' performance in camp up until the point he was injured. Phillips and Jones both said that Jenkins' absence shouldn't be viewed as a significant setback in his competition for a starting job with Orlando Scandrick.

Scandrick was the only cornerback who played well in the preseason opener with Jenkins and Terence Newman (strained groin) sidelined. Newman is expected to practice tomorrow.

ummm lets get real here this has and never will be a competition for the starting corner spot. Its only in name cause everyone knows Jenkins is gonna be given the spot unless for some reason he absolutely blew it

True if all things were equal it was jenkins job to lose. But there is nothing in the book that says he can't be replaced if he falters a good bit during the season.

Oh please, Scandrick had a chance to win the starting job on Thursday. He didn't make any big plays. Thats life

Dude hush Jenkins has always been etched in for that starting role. Scandrick has been fighting an uphill battle the whole time.

He hasn't done anything to start ahead of Jenkins. Make some plays in preseason and the job will be his.

He outplayed him last year, in the regular season. That's something.

But don't get me wrong I would like for Jenkins to start.

And what has Jenkins done??? The point of my post was to to state how this really isnt a CB competition. The media is running it as one and the coaches are mouthing it as such but the reality is the Organization needs Jenkins to be the starter because of his draft status. Is it fair probably not but thats just the business part of football that players have to deal with. If this was in fact a true competition for the position NEITHER one has done anything to separate from the other. So dont sit here on some high horse and act like Jenkins is playing that much better cause this thing is a tie. Theyre both great young talents and whoever starts we're gonna be good but it should be a REAL competition.

I'm more worried about Newman and his injuries than I am Jenkins...groin injuries can linger for months...

So just how has Jenkins proved he is the starter, shying away from a tackles, getting embarrassed on a national stage, RW has owned him in Training Camp. Scandrick has and still is earning the sport, while Jerry and Wade are giving it to Jenkins. Cowboys don't want to loose face by giving Scandrick the position, which would question their draft capabilities. Ala, Bobby Carpenter, why is he still in a cowboy uniform?

Jenkins is doing some good things, but Scandrick is doing better day in day out.

Both Jenkins and Scandrick are going to be important members of this defense and will see a lot of playing time this season. Who starts I don't think is much of an issue given how offense like running 3 WR.

It does not really matter. There are 3 starting corners in my book because Scandrick will be on the field a whole lot anyway.

I think that in an even competition Jenkins would get the nod anyway because Scandrick is so good in the slot anyway. That way when the 3rd guy comes in you don't have Scandrick moving to the slot if he was the starter.

lol.

Scandrick got more playing time last year.

He was better and passed Jenkins. Towards the end of the year Jenkins fought his way back in the rotation by providing great man coverage.

Jenkins has more upside so he'll get more benefits of the doubt but no one so going to keep Scandrick off the field if he plays well.

The one who has to worry is TNew he has the big contract and recent injury bug. Scandrick's gains will come at his expense.. literally. But the team has only 3 proven NFL CBs so no one should sweat it this year.
