Miles Austin, overnight success?

With 421 receiving yards in his last two games, Miles Austin has burst on to the scene like no other receiver.

And when he comes into the locker room these days, he is often surrounded by media. His locker is tucked into a corner with mostly defensive players, so they now have to take refuge somewhere else as Austin talks.

On Wednesday Steve Octavien gave Austin some good natured grief for bringing so many folks to the neighborhood, so to speak, and Austin politely moved over some to give Octavien more room. Didn't matter it was an overflow crowd.

"It's happened pretty fast, in a couple of weeks," Austin said of the newfound fame. "You know I didn't have this many people at my locker five weeks ago."

Later Austin was asked what makes him dangerous.

"I don't think I'm dangerous," Austin said. "I'm just running routes and there happens to be holes open and I'm just getting there and trying to make plays after I catch it."

I asked him how he doesn't get sucked into the hype after that and he said, "Ah, not answering questions like he just asked me."

Clearly, however, things are different for him now.

"It's fine with me," Austin said. "I'm still going to live the same life I have been living and continue to do what I've been doing. That's all I can do."

Bum defends Wade Phillips

In talking with Bum Phillips for today's piece on the sons who have followed their fathers into the world of NFL coaching, he offered a strident defense of his son: Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips.

``Everybody says he hasn't won a playoff game,'' Bum Phillips said. ``Well, I know a lot of guys who haven't even got to the playoffs. Wade's won with three teams, and two of them were getting beaten up when he got there. I'd say that's pretty good.''

All Wade has to do is win in post season. His record as a HC is good and he has taken over some very poor teams and elevated their play. He is 0-4 in post season but many coaches have tasted failure before tasting success. Wade has an oppertunity in Dallas and I hope he can finally put his critics to rest.

I agree. I thought it was an illegal forward pass when I 1st saw it live and feel the same way every time I have seen the replay but the call went against them. It is what it is, Wade has a chance to change the past by winning now.

Wade is the Head Coach, he should fix things before they get that bad.

Dehaven had been the special teams coach for 13 years in Buffalo and had done a great job with that unit. That play helped cost him his job

I think Wade is a good coach. He just needs to win a playoff game and I think he will this year. Winning cures everything.

If you are satisfied with just a playoff win this season, then I guess he's a good coach.

Yes put his loud mouth critics to rest. Wade has a winning record as a HC if he can get this team to the NFC Championship game then yes I think many will shut up about him others won't and some never will. This franchise has not done jack in years not even under Parcells, if Wade can get this team over the back into real contention then yes I think most around the NFL and those with a sliver of common sense will acknowledge the job of Phillips as a HC

But he did make a stupid decision to start Rob Johnson instead of Doug Flutie in that game.

Why? Flutie had just had 3 games that were not good losing 2 of the 3. Johnson played before the start of the playoffs and had a very good game throwing for close to 300 yards and 2 TD's. I know Flutie was the local favorite but there was more to the story, Wade did not just pull this move out of thin air
