NFL in communication with Cowboys

As would be expected, the NFL has been in close contact with the Cowboys since that microburst destroyed the team's indoor training facility Saturday afternoon, injuring 12.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, in a phone interview today, said the league would be reviewing the event with the Cowboys and following further developments, including the investigation by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Individual teams are responsible for their practice facilities, if they are team-owned, like the Cowboys' situation, Aiello said.

"Every team in our league is well aware of what happened and taking every step to check on their facilities," Aiello said. "We're confident they're looking closely at it. Everybody shares the same interest in learning from the situation and applying the lessons from that.

"It's a unique weather situation. We know that."

Aiello said it's "a team call" when it comes to practice in adverse conditions.

As near as I can tell the team took the practice indoors because of the weather. I am pleased it doesn't sound like the NFL is blaming the Cowboys for any kind of neglect or endangerment issue, but that last line makes it sound like they were unaware that the Cowboys took the practice indoors because of weather. That's not very bright.

Greg Aiello used to work for the Cowboys. You'd think he could get complete information about why they were in the "bubble" and if they were aware of the severity of the weather beforehand.

The weather before they got there was probably regular rain. Maybe heavy rain, but there have been no indications it was unusually heavy. The players are drenched while the structure is still standing.

It just seems logical there was weather so they took practice inside and then Mother Nature pitched a fit.

I agree Hos. Sometimes you do not know when a large gust of wind of that magnitude will happen. Here in Lubbock, we get bursts over 60 miles an hour randomly some days when other gusts are a third that size.
