Nick Folk's surgery doesn't change David Buehler's approach

Fifth-round pick David Buehler understands that the Cowboys drafted him primarily for his ability to put the ball in the end zone on kickoffs. He accepts that the plan is for his pal Nick Folk to handle the field goal duties.
That plan had a little hiccup this week when Folk underwent surgery to repair a labral tear in his right hip. Folk is expected to be ready for training camp, but Buehler figures he better be prepared if Folk doesn't recover as quickly as anticipated.
That pretty much means business as usual for Buehler, though.
"You always need to keep a fluid stroke to stay ready," said Buehler, who is back at USC to finish up his degree. "The main reason I was drafted was for the kickoffs, but I've always concentrated on my field goals as well. I'll probably have to concentrate on that a little more just in case Nick doesn't make a full recovery."
Buehler, who suffered minor injuries in the collapse of the Cowboys' indoor facility, said he'll resume kicking workouts as soon as he has the three stitches removed from his right knee next week. A typical field goal practice session for him consists of 30 "quality balls" from varying angles and distances.
"I don't want to overkick," said Buehler, who envisions every practice kick as a pressurized game-winner. "My workouts aren't physically that hectic, but I get a strong mental workout."
