San Diego coach Norv Turner barely had the chance to get the words hello out of his mouth before he was hit was the obvious question.
So, how much did he want the Cowboys head coaching job that went to Wade Phillips?
"A lot has happened since then,'' Turner said. "That really is a non-issue with me.
"Obviously, I was extremely interested. That's why I came in and talked to Jerry (Jones). It went to Wade and I thought they made a great selection.''
Turner was obviously familiar with Jones and the Cowboys since he was the team's offensive coordinator for two of its Super Bowl titles. He was a leading candidate and the last person interviewed.
Disappointed?
"Again, when you're in the middle of one of those things, I think you get a sense, a feel, for what's happening,'' Turner said. "I wasn't surprised. When you're not surprised, I think the disappointment is different.''
Phillips' defensive credentials and expertise in the 3-4 was one of the determining factors.
"Obviously, there were a lot of things that went into it,'' Turner said. "But honestly, I'm not going to answer any more questions about that. I prefer to talk about the game.''
