** Kicker David Buehler took part in a limited portion of practice. I have to ask: Isn't that always the case? Anyway.
"He said he was a little sore but he flet like he could go on Sunday," Phillips said. "We think it'll get better as we go."
Phillips said Buehler took part in some coverage in practice, but earlier Buehler said he would not work on punt return this week because of the toe.
** Washington coach Jim Zorn officially ruled out Clinton Portis from Sunday's game because of the lingering effects of a concussion.
"It's just a little bit blurry," Zorn told the Washington media. "It is just foggy enough for me to not trust. I want to see him practice and I want to see him have those days where he practices and doesn't have any residual problems or anything like that. Right now he can't even practice, so we will keep him out this week."
** The Cowboys have been practicing in their throwback helmets that they will wear on Thanksgiving against Oakland. They wore the throwback uniform for the Kansas City game earlier this year.
** Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show that the roof will be closed for Sunday's game but the end zone doors will be open.
** Pat McQuistan will be active for the first time this season as the backup tackle now that Doug Free is starting at right tackle. I'd look for the Cowboys to keep dressing seven offensive linemen so that would mean Montrae Holland would continue to be inactive.
** Phillips said Mike Jenkins looked a lot better in Thursday's practice than Wednesday. He suffered a bruised left biceps against Green Bay but is not wearing a sleeve.
** Phillips said Alan Ball would be responsible for the calls for the secondary, but that Gerald Sensabaugh will give him some help on Sunday.
