Tony Romo has struggled the last week of practices and it showed in Saturday's game. Romo completed 6-of-9 passes for just 33 yards for a quarterback rating of 72.9. He had no touchdowns.

His longest throw was for 10 yards and he missed a wide open Sam Hurd on a deep ball. Romo was moving to his right to avoid the rush when he threw the ball, yet he appeared to have gotten set.

"I thought the effort was good," Romo said. "The execution wasn't. Bad penalties hurt us, I was talking to Wade [Phillips] and we were talking about how it's like a turnover. We have to stop it, we over came a little bit but they would catch up to us eventually."

Jason Witten would like the offense to do better.

"There is concern, you have to perform better," Witten said. "The drive that we had last week was perfect, but we couldn't put together anything [Saturday]. It's a new year and the team has to understand that. It's not last year anymore."

Good points by Witten. Now it's only two preseason games, and the first-team offense looked great last week.

Bradie James: "We're not ready to play the season"

The Cowboys are 0-2 to start the preseason and haven't looked that good doing it.
Inside linebacker Bradie James said it best about the start:

"Yeah, the whole key is to win," James said. "We're not ready to play the season yet, and that's evident."

The Cowboys better get ready soon, because the season opener at Cleveland is right around the corner.

Romo is absolutely correct about the penalties - they are like turnovers in that they stop drives.

Even as poorly as we've played in the past two pre-season games, if we could cut down on the penalties and turnovers, we could have won both.

I'm not really sure how you cut down on penalties, however, other than to keep emphasizing it during practices.

Hmmm......where are the posts calling Brady and Witten morons for being concerned about last night's embarrassment?

I'm no coach but one thing you can do is in practice when a guy makes a stupid mistake... get him out of the lineup and get someone who can remember not to play dumb in there.

Sit a few guys and maybe they'll play smart for a while.

Why would anyone call them morons?

Embarrassment is pushing it to say the least. lacking emotion and enthusiasm is more accurate to me.

i think that will change friday night. Funny how a home game in front your home crowd can do that.

Did someone not tell Witten and James it's just preseason?looks like im not the only one who thinks we have a long way to go. but if it makes the all is well crowd happy. go right ahead saying all is fine and it's just preseason. im a big believer in you play like you practice.

Again, relax. Lets not forget that this was a second half team all year last year...seems to take us a while to get into a rhythm. You can't get that playing a little more than 1 quarter.

We've got playmakers all over the field, they couldn't cover owens last night. This offense will be fine.

Well, 2/5 of our OL would be on the sidelines for extended periods then. :laugh2:

Just kidding, I know what you mean.

I was thinking the staff could pull out examples on film of how penalties hurt teams in the playoffs (i.e., like us vs. the Giants), make the entire offense/defense re-run plays and/or do penalty laps if any one member makes a penalty in practice, etc.

Of course, they probably already do some of this stuff I suppose. But I think if we can clean up our penaties/turovers, we will automatically start rolling on offense, defense, and STs.

Well it is preseason. Its a time to evaluate players, plays, install new schemes and see what your personnel can do. Mistakes are to be expected. Preseason games are not meant to be won, so much as played. You guys are going to stroke out if you dont chill just a little.

What we are seeing is not what the boys are going to put on the field against Cleveland.

Are they supposed to say they aren't worried about it because its preseason? They are the leaders of the team you know. If they say they aren't worried than the other players/young players on the team wont be worried either. But you already knew that im sure. Its part of being a leader u knicklehead.

Did you not watch this team in december of last year, and in the playoffs? it still looks the same preseason or not.but if it makes some of you feel better to keep making excuses saying it's just preseason over and over'go for it.

Because apparently, it is against the rules to feel concerned about a bad performance in the pre-season games. After all, bad performance in the pre-season has nothing to do with the real games. The players will just turn on the light switch and play mistake-free football when it counts.

hey you have every right to do that. No one is saying that is wrong. Just keep it in perspective.

the penalties have to stop for sure, but the rest of the stuff I dont see as a cause for worry yet.

We couldn't cover anyone. There were times when I saw 2 and 3 receivers wide open in the middle. The entire secondary looked confused.

I also believe we were out-coached to some degree.

could be. The game meant alot to denver that is for sure. I think they wanted to atone for last years game. Especially if shanahan is sending letters to stewart.

So I am sure that played a hand in it too.
