Before Todd and the crew at Wednesday's OTA tell you what's going on, I'll recap some things from Tuesday. I'm out of town on assignment.

Jerry Jones loves his corners, especially with Pacman Jones on the scene.
The Cowboys Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins, Anthony Henry and Pacman Jones as their top corners.

"You look out there today with those corners there's three teams worth of corners out there," Jones said. "It's unbelievable."

Jerry said Pacman told him he felt sore after his first practice in almost a year, but "he's in as good a shape as anybody out there," Jerry said. "He's not ready to play football, but in good shape."

Todd Archer just checked in from Valley Ranch to let us know that linebacker Greg Ellis is participating in today's organized team activities.

More later (including the Pacman circus) ...

The more and more I look at the secondary, just gives me chills. On paper, this is easily the best secondary in Cowboys history.

Let's not get carried away with talk of "the best in cowboy history". They have not done anything yet...

And some of the cowboy defenses in the past were damn good. Let's see how dominate they really are on game day, for the entire season, and yes that includes playoffs.

I'm holding off until they earn the nickname -- Doomsday III.

-------------

Doomsday I - late 60's & early 70's
Doomsday II - late 70's & early 80's

I don't like using the name Doomsday again. This is 2008 and if our defense plays well enough to earn a nickname I don't want to reuse an old one. That name belongs, and rightly so, to those players who earned it back in the 70s.
Besides, maybe TO can come up with a good name for our defense. After all, he did all right naming MBIII as the "barbarian" and it sure stuck.

How completely selfish of Ellis to show up and take snaps away from Spencer.

The group we had in 1971 wasn't too shabby:

My hope is that even with the addition of Jones, they don't forget about Jenkins, Scandrick, and Ball. While its almost a foregone conclussion that Pacman will play this season, I'd hate to stunt the development of the younger corners just because the circus has come to town.

its easily the best CB trio we have ever had.

Kevin Smith And Deion Sanders never played together when Smith was healthy. Thats even before you consider who was the nickel in 1995.

CB trio does not make the entire secondary.

Finally ... an image of Pacman Jones not wearing a Tennessee Titans uniform.
Thanks to DMN photographer Tom Fox, who is out at Valley Ranch today.

I'd say on paper, it is the best secondary we've had.

Newman - top 10 pick - shutdown corner
Henry - one of the top 20 CB's when healthy
Adam Jones - top 5 pick - potential to be a top corner
Jenkins - 1st round pick - tons of potential, won't get rushed into playing due to above players
Hamlin - top 10 FS in NFL right now, I personally don't think he's as great as some seem to think, but he's SO MUCH better than what we've had since Woody left.
Roy - he's still a top SS in the NFL

Also....

Brown - showing promise
Scandrick - lots of potential
Watkins - good ST's player, shows alittle at FS spot

I'm sorry, but there isn't any slowing down looking at that list. It is "on paper" once again, the best secondary we've ever had. Hands down.

On paper, they certainly do have what "could" be one of the best secondarys we've had, now, let's hope it translates over onto the field though.

That's my point as well. I hate the "on paper" and "potential" scenarios.
