If NFL commissioner Roger Goodell refuses to reinstate Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones, he may have to switch sports. Last night at a charity event hosted by Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten, Pacman bowled the top score of 189.
Reporters on the scene knew something was up when Pacman showed up with his own bowling ball. As reported by The Dallas Morning News, Pacman "stayed close" to new teammate Tank Johnson for most of the evening, which had to be comforting to guests.Pacman Jones
Pacman, who usually releases news through Michael Irvin's radio show, told reporters that he is seeking permission from Goodell to join the Cowboys' player development program and participate in the organized team activities, which begin Tuesday morning. Under the terms of his current suspension, Jones isn't allowed to visit the club's facility.
"Hopefully I can get around my new teammates and start doing OTAs and working out with them," Jones said Sunday at Score Foundation All-Star Bowl 2008. "I still have to go through the process, and I'm just waiting. I'm ready to get in there and learn the defense. And I've been out of the game for a year, so I need to shake off all the rust to get ready to play."
I just hung up the phone with Pacman's Atlanta-based agent, Manny Arora, who seemed a bit surprised by his client's comments.
"Any action we take in regards to reinstatement, whenever that happens, will be done privately with the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys."
From what I know about the situation, it wouldn't surprise me if the commissioner allowed Jones to enter the Cowboys' player development program. The last thing you want is this kid roaming around Dallas with too much time on his hands.
That said, I don't think the commissioner will feel compelled to allow Pacman to participate in OTAs or minicamps. That would be a clear sign that he's preparing to reinstate the player, and I don't think he's arrived at that decision.
