Pittsburgh can feel Cowboys' pain at running back

Marion Barber is day-to-day with nine days to go until the Cowboys' next game, so the smart money says he'll play in Pittsburgh. Don't expect the Steelers to feel sorry for the Cowboys if Barber's toe keeps him from going.

Mewelde Moore, the Steelers' third-string running back, has started four games this season. Starter Willie Parker has had all sorts of problems with his left knee.

First-round pick Rashard Mendenhall's season ended when he was obliterated by Ravens LB Ray Lewis in the rookie's first start.

Moore, a seven-year pro, has done a mighty fine job. He's rushed for 360 yards and scored six TDs in his four starts.

The Steelers are 2-2 in those games, but you can't blame the third-string RB for close losses to the Giants and Colts.

Even if Barber is able to play, fourth-round pick Tashard Choice has to prepare to be a workhorse. Buried on the bench behind Barber and out-for-the-season first-rounder Felix Jones for most of the year, Choice has done well with his limited opportunities (147 yards on 30 carries).

Is Choice ready to handle a heavy workload? The Cowboys hope they don't have to find out, especially against the league's top-ranked defense. But all they'll have to do is look across the field in Pittsburgh for proof that good teams can win with third-stringers running the ball.
