Marion Barber reminded folks this afternoon that he's more than just a bruiser.

Barber, whose average per carry plummeted to 3.7 last season in part due to trying to tough it out on a bad toe late in the season, showed impressive burst on what might have been a long touchdown run.

The play was designed to go off left tackle, but Barber didn't see any room to run there. He made a quick cut up the middle, then bounced around the right end. At that point, Barber put it in the next gear, making Marcus Spears whiff when it looked like the defensive end had a good angle. If any defensive backs could have caught Barber, it wouldn't have been until at least 40 yards downfield.

"He has enough speed to bounce outside, and he's particularly good at that, as well as the cutback runs," Wade Phillips said of Barber, who has slimmed down five pounds since last season to 222. "He looks good, ready to go."

Barber at 6' and 222 is a pretty nice size. He looks so skinny under pads, but those arms are cut as crap.

Doesn't getting caught after 40 yards make him not a burner?

He's very quick between the tackles and getting to the edge...but that doesn't make him a burner.

He said IF any db would've caught him, it wouldve been at least 40 yards downfield. So that means that they stopped the play after Barber got in the clear...

He's right though.

M Dot deserves Bobby Carpenter bust rue-age as well. He's gotten off relatively easy on this board.

I expected a lot more out of him, especially the way BP hyped him up.

healthy barber+ healthy felix= best RB duo in the NFL

You could argue for Carolina's tandem, but MB3+Felix+Tashard = hands down, no competition best stable of backs in the NFL.
