Jerry Jones looks back to look ahead

Not only did Wade Phillips address the team today, but so did owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
Interestingly, Phillips did not meet with the team after last season's loss to Philadelphia, which caught some players by surprise.
The messages were simple: be proud of what was accomplished and get ready to work again in 2010 to go further in the postseason.
But Jones also referenced a point in the team's history early in his tenure in 1991. The Cowboys finished that season with an 11-5 record and won their first playoff game in nine seasons only to be bounced in a rout by a team that plays in a dome from the NFC North (then Central) in Detroit, 38-6.
The Cowboys came back in 1992 and won the NFC East with a 13-3 record, beat San Francisco in the NFC title game on the road and captured the first of the team's three Super Bowls.
This year's team finished 11-5, won the NFC East, won its first playoff game since 1996 and lost to a domed team from the NFC North in Minnesota, 34-3.
Not sure if there are parallels but it is an interesting note ... and Super Bowl XLV will be played at Cowboys Stadium.
"That would be the best situation that could happen," cornerback Terence Newman said. "To have it here and in the stadium that will be two years old - there is no other thing that would be better than to play a Super Bowl at your home stadium, 100,000 fans, it doesn't get better than that."

The Cowboys have no official announcement regarding Wade Phillips' status in 2010, but the coach's return should not be considered a surprise.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has continuously said late in the season that a contract with Phillips is in place and things are just a formality.
Players are relieved to know Phillips will be back.
"He did a great job," quarterback Tony Romo said. "He kept the team together during a lot of tough times this year. He's done a fantastic job as coach of the Cowboys."
Said safety Gerald Sensabaugh: "You could just see that we were a different football team from the beginning of the season to the end. We were able to overcome the hard times and it shows a lot about a team and that was a directive of how Wade is as a person: put the past behind you and keep going forward. That's how we played this year. We were able to bounce back from tough losses and won the division, that's pretty good."
And tight end Martellus Bennett: "I like coach Wade. He's been doing a great job with us all year. There's a lot of things they said we couldn't do with him as our head coach. They said we couldn't win in December. We did that. They said we couldn't beat the Eagles three times. We did that. They said we couldn't win a playoff game. We did that. He's been doing a great job with us."
