DMN Blog: Ranking the 'Boys free agents

If we're ranking the free agents today, here's a look at who will be gone in 2009.

1. Kevin Burnett. Wants to start and get paid like a starter. Cowboys might not see it that way.

2. Chris Canty. Tommy Kelly is Canty's hero, contract-wise. Cowboys might let him go.

3. Zach Thomas. Zach wants to play for a contender and I don't believe he thinks that's Dallas. But I could be wrong.

4. Tank Johnson. Pacman's defense attorney can't play.

5. Tony Curtis. The team could let him go somewhere else. Not a big loss.


And here's a look at the free agents worth keeping

1. Keith Davis. The special teams ace and one of the toughest guys on the team. Cowboys need him.

2. Carlos Polk. He likes special teams and this is a Wade Phillips guy.

3. Miles Austin. Lots of potential and deserves a high tender.

4. Sam Hurd. Injuries slowed his development last season. Deserves another shot.

5. Stephen Bowen. If you lose Canty, which is expected, can Bowen compete for a starting spot.

Yeah his career is done. Feel sorry for him though, seemed like a good guy.

The WaPo says that the Skins have significant interest in Canty. I haven't been that impressed with him, so I'm probably against this move.

Edit: maybe he's mostly a run-stopper/ guy to occupy blockers which is why I haven't really noticed him. (insert Brandon Noble joke here).

I don't think he's a good fit in a 4-3 at all. So I hope you pay him lots :
