With six draft picks, including first rounders Felix Jones (No. 22 overall) and Mike Jenkins (No. 25), the Cowboys were given a rookie pool of $4.095 million.

The rookie pool serves as a cap within the salary cap. With their undrafted signings, the Cowboys have already taken out a chunk of their rookie pool.
Cleveland gave last year's No. 22 pick., Brady Quinn, a five-year deal worth $20.2 million, including $7.75 million guaranteed. Carolina gave Jon Beason, the 25th pick last year, a five-year deal worth $12.51 million, including $6 million guaranteed.

The Jones' talks could be interesting because Quinn's contract was higher than what Reggie Nelson received as the 21st pick. That happened because Quinn is a quarterback and they always get more than what is slotted.

No problem. We don't have to abide by the salary cap rules so we can spend whatever is necessary to keep whomever we want. :D

I know that if we guarantee Tony Romos contract we get 4.5, then if we sign Hamlin, Cantry and Barber, we should get more possibly save about 3-4 million,

But, we still have to sign Newman, he is going to want 6-8 million a year or so;

Then if we do trade for Jason Taylor as the rumors still are saying, thats more;

Then we have to pay Pacman too, about 1.2 million i think, so where are we going to come up with extra salary cap money if a veteran wr comes available in a trade during summer?

So, how are we going to do it guys, right now, we just have about 4 millioin in cap money/?

They can also save $4-5 million by working out an extension with TO. Also, you guys are forgetting the rule of 51, so while the rookie cap is $4 million, it will only truely cost about $2 million against the cap to sign all the rookies. There is plenty of wiggle room and way to create cap space to get everyone signed. Now, trading for Taylor or Roy Williams is another story and I don't see it happening.

We have $4 million free - but I think I read that Adam said.. the rookie pool was already figured in.

If you guarantee Romo's salary - You're looking at around $4.5 million or so. Add that to the $4 million free we already have now, you're looking at $9.5 million.. and the rookie cap doesn't even come out of that.

If you extend Hamlin, you save money. If you extend Owens, you save money.

I'd think(I'm not Adam, though), if you extend Hamlin, guarantee Romo, extend Owens, you could easily be looking at $11-12 million free.

Per Adam in the Salary Cap thread:

AdamJT13;2065564 said:
Our rookie pool should end up being about $4.05 million. But because of the Rule of 51, we will use only about $1.98 million of cap room to sign all of our rookies.

All of that means we have a cushion of about $1.27 million of cap room right now. But as I've posted before, we have easy ways to increase that by more than $10 million --

Is Adam not amazing?

We are so lucky to have a memeber like Adam available to us.

I just shake my head in disbelief.
