When Roy becomes something more than and 230 pound ankle tackler, i might listen. I'm sure Jerry isn't.

Regardless, it would be better for a potentially undedicated player to prefer a Bowles promotion and being left alone. If Williams falls into that category, there is a good reason he wouldn't want someone looking in on the defense as much.

I think he is dead wrong. Offense wasn't the problem. The defense was. The last thing they need is an even bigger excuse to loaf with a coach preoccupied with the offense.

And your opinion holds as much weight as Roy's left cheek....

Strong safety Roy Williams, who supports Todd Bowles to become defensive coordinator, said he would like the team to stick with an offensive coach for the head job.

“I think being that we have Coach Bowles there,” Williams said, “and he can take over the defensive coordinator’s job, easy. I think we probably should go in the direction of offense. We should probably get an offensive coordinator to be the head coach for our team.”

RW is saying that because he knows his spot on this team isn't secure with a coach from outside the organization, especially a defensive minded one that would realize right of the bat he's weakest link in the secondary.

Sure he can hit, but he's one of the worst coverage safeties I've ever seen!

The exact reason I want Rivera or Singletary type calling the shots on D. Allowing the players to dictate things like this always leads to problems.

Isn't this the same guy who got abused by Jeremy Stevens twice?

It wasn't his fault. It's easier to blame Bradie James.

I agree.

Players who campaign for certain coaches usually have their own motives and don't think much beyond themselves.

The only players I have seen who have openly supported a Bowles promotion (Newman and Williams) are the ones who probably have the most to gain by his advancement.

We will never know the real story behind the collapse, but I just have a feeling Zimmer might have been a little harder on them than Bowles was. Remember he was their position coach until two years ago.

why all the hate for Roy? why can't we all just hope he's allowed to play close to the LOS, and be able to work w/ a real FS and pass-rush? he's one of the few playmakers we have on this team, you should be wishing him good luck instead of whining about the money that isn't your's, he's making

If he were not highly visable on many of the horrific pass plays against us the last few years, the "hate" wouldn't exist.

And as for this "just let him play closer to the line of scrimmage" or even worse "make him a LB" nonsense, it's not that simple. Eventually he is going to have to play in coverage and play deep. That's what safeties do. Even average strong safeties should be able to cover tight ends in man coverage. When they are making his kind of money, they should be able to shut them down.

Granted, he is misused and has been, but he should not escape accountability by any means.

No, no. See the other thread. They have these mysterious, unsupported, incorrect "facts" proving Roy as a superstar.

I could care less what happened last year. It wasn't good and I hope he improves on it for next year. I don't understand the need to defend a guy who played poorly. Admit it, move on and hope he improves his game.

It isn't "hate". Its an observation.

I want a combo of Singletary and Rivera or Wade PHillips and Rivera. We don't need Norv IMO. Garrett and Saprano will be fine running the offense.

Singletary and Rivera, I think would be a great combo as far as motivation and getting the players ready to play. I also think with their defensive background they could come up with many ways to use Roy near the line of scrimmage.

Phillips and Rivera would be good IMO too because you would get the 3-4 background that Wade provides with the 46 background that Rivera provides. I think that is just a lot of knowledge on the defensive side of the ball that would do wonders for our team. That combo would also allow Rivera or Garrett to move into the HC position in 2-3 years.

Bowles as DC gives me the same bad feeling as Norv as HC.

the problem is that ROy does cover, and he covers well when he's not being asked to roam the deep-zone 80% of the time, and match up w/ WRs because the scheme calls for it, all the while not having a pass-rush, whatever happened to matching players to their strengths? there is no way Roy is going to be playing close to the LOS and not cover, that just won't happen, but he should be playing close to the LOS a heck of a lot more than he has been these past 3 years

I admit though that Roy needs to play TEs better, but average strong safeties can't hang w/ big, fast, athletic TEs in man-coverage by themselves
